Review Summary: One of the greatest cd's of Muse
Okay, my first review. I decided to go with a band I know pretty well and a band of which I've heard every song of every album.
The Resistance, where to begin? Well first I’m going to say it's an awesome album and we can see in the lyrics and in the song titles that Muse has grown up, I mean, listen to...Showbiz, the songs are genius but they have a rebel and dirty sound. I'm NOT saying they are not good, as I said before, they are genius! Now, we can compare 1999 Showbiz and 2009 The Resistance and it has a HUGE difference, lyrics have changed, sound has changed, the titles even changed their "expression". I'm talking about a hole new album with innovations and lots of different stuff. We have the changes in guitar riffs, they are still badass in some songs like Uprising, Unnatural Selection and MK Ultra...but we can't deny the big participation of Matt's piano, i mean the 85 percent of the album contain songs with piano, whether it's an intro or a chorus. I believe the piano gave a touch of..."our songs have more power of meaning", it sort of gave that sensation of seriousness in the songs.
On the other hand we have Chris...oh Chris, he has been through a lot of things as we all know and at one moment he didn't have a good image, Matt and Dom didn't have it either....but Chris was so notorious. In The Resistance I could see a cured and serious Chris, I’m sure he hasn't lost the funny side, but he also has a mature side and he definitely shows it.
Now Dom...Dom hasn't jumped of the page a lot, BUT I have to recognize that he HAS NOT lost his badass drumming' we can see in...Knights of Cydonia, Assassin, Unnatural Selection, and others.
Muse has been through rough times when they released Inspirations part 1 and 2 we could see that the band wasn't musically strong and the three of them (Matt, Chris and Dom) were not having a good time with themselves, but luckily they got through it and gave us amazing cd's and beautiful symphonies (Exogenesis Symphonies).
Before I finish this I have to recognize the job these guys made on Exogenesis Symphonies...how could i miss them?
Overture is a serious song, with Matt doing a wonderful job with his voice, he really fits his tones with the melody and the orchestra instruments were an awesome idea. The guitar comes in a perfect timing for the solo and gives a dramatic touch apart from Matt's voice.
Cross Pollination, a song with a lot of piano. This song has a soft beginning, but it starts to get a hard attitude when Dom comes in with the drums, and Matt with the guitar and one of his many voices, in this song particularly, a strong voice. After that, the piano takes it all with that perfect ending.
Redemption is like calm after a storm, a delicate piano melody which starts turning dramatic for Matt's voice entrance and Dom...Perfect timing as always, lucky bastard I wish someday I can play like him. The song finishes with the same piano melody it started with.
Sorry for that description, these 3 songs give me chills and I believe they deserve a good review and I also think that those 3 last songs make a beautiful cd with a nice and cool ending.
I can't suggest any songs...i would suggest the whole cd.
