Review Summary: A fine piece of work that all metal heads (and all other genres) should give a chance
Seventh Wonder is a little known group, who prior to hearing I assumed would be nothing more than another metal band throwing a proverbial dart at the board attempting to be successful. However, upon listening, there is definitely more to them than meets the eye
Seventh Wonder is a progressive/power metal band from Sweden who have been together for more than a decade, and it shows with their 3rd studio album “Mercy Falls”. This album is instrumentally sound with technical guitar, and pounding drum work. However, where this album, and the band as a whole, really shines is in Tommy Karevik’s vocal performance. The moment his powerful voice erupts from title track “Welcome to Mercy Falls”, you know it was going to be a hell of a ride.
This album is quite diverse in what it offers its audience. It may go from blistering solos to a bridge that could make you wipe a tear away, ‘Unbreakable’ and ‘Break the Silence’ are prime examples. The track ‘One Last Goodbye’ catches the listener off guard by offering something more. With this song they proved they are not only mastering the art of shredding, they are mastering the art of touching their audience, making an emotional connection that pulls the listener in and, in turn, makes them want to hear more.
“Mercy Falls” is not re-inventing the genre, but it certainly boosts its credibility, and gives us all hope.
