Review Summary: Descendents - Milo Goes to College can do all but not appeal to ordinary life, and it just employs a beautiful sense of classical, nerdy, funny, sarcastic, musical genius.
Descendents cannot help but be at the very near top of my choice of music. The punk genre is all too appealing to me as a single member of a grand audience. I am too aware of what goes on in a superb genre that 'Descendents" displays. Their style of music, combined with typical laid-back fat ass fantasy's of food, girls, sex, chilling, and overall a good time being a nerd, make 'Descendents' a load of fun from top, to bottom. The way that 'Descendents' make their power in the punk genre is so damn near perfect, is that they actually understand what it is that they are talking about. I have found several punk bands that had no skill in their instruments, no theory in their lyrics, and a voice as disgusting as three-week-old road kill. 'Descendents' on the other hand, is packed with a very fun style of music, very fun lyrics; it puts me in a place of relaxation, almost like a dream land, or happy place. Listening to 'Descendents' is very much so, like an adventure through a particular lifestyle that, in my opinion, is pure paradise.
EVERY song in this album portrays very nicely, a very common subject in one's life. The songs subjects in 'Milo Goes to College', are actually pretty calm subjects, but 'Descendents' takes those subjects, and blasts hardcore into them all. This is most notable in love songs of theirs' like 'Kabuki Girl' and 'Marriage', where the story of liking a girl is acknowledged, but the trait of "I want to *** this person" is made noted with lyrics, and hardcore instrumentals. Other songs like 'Suburban Home" just say, "I want to follow the crowd, I don’t want my individuality", all said in a sarcastic way as to make fun of suburbs. 'Catalina' is my single most favorite song on this album. The tune is amazing, the lyrics talk of wanting to escape, wanting to get away, but your lack of fuel prevents you from doing so. I can relate so well to that. It's all just plain, and simply, beautiful.
This album is absolutely fantastic, by far 'Descendents' best work. This debut should be forever remembered as a punk legend in the area from whence it came. It would make me a lot happier if these people were more popular, better known.
