Review Summary: Evan Brewer clearly displays he's a master at the bass guitar.

For those of you aren't familiar with Evan Brewer, allow me to educate you. He was the ex-bassist for the now defunct band Animosity, and is now the current bassist for death metal band The Faceless. And let me just tell you, I bet they are extremely happy they have such a fine bassist and musician in their line-up.

The only true way to explain his skill is an analogy - Evan's as good on the bass as Tosin Abasi (Animals as Leaders) is on the guitar. No note is left untouched, no string left unplucked. It's clear his dedication to the bass has payed off, and quite well I might add.

Alone is just a masterful display of musicianship. "Every sound heard on the album was done by a bass guitar in some way or another", as stated by Evan himself. You'll hear something that sounds like it should be in a Seinfeld introduction (Degenerate), or you can hear something that sounds like it belongs in a Final Fantasy game (Looking West). But no matter what you're hearing, it never leaves you in short of awe.

Being an instrument album (pun intended), you won't find any vocals on here. This is solely a display for Evan's amazing bass work found throughout all of Alone. There are no drums, no guitars, just Evan and his trusty bass. Any bass musician - or fan of good progressive music in general, will find Alone to be something that is very unique and interesting. From hiding away for a couple years to joining The Faceless and his solo work, it's safe to say we'll be seeing more of Evan Brewer's awesome skills.

I know it's a short review, it's hard to write on this one. It's more of a you just have to listen to it type deal.

That's not really something you should be saying straight after you just reviewed it.

Give me a sec and I'll up the tracklist

Looking back yeah, my mistake. But it really is in it's own league.

I thought something looked off, didn't even notice there was no track listing. Thanks.

Review seemed a little rushed strictly in the sense that there's some grammar & punctuation errors. Other than that it's ok. It's a strange album to try and describe. Unless you're a musician (preferably a bass player), this album will quickly get boring. Really looking forward to the new Faceless now though.

Just listened to this again. This would be great for a road trip or a long drive by myself. That'd be the best way to get totally invested ... no distractions

This was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. However, I can see the novelty wearing off in time.

However, I can see the novelty wearing off in time.

Now playing bass, I guess I am biased
But what is novel about this? All I hear is someone pushing the limits of his instrument in a thought provoking way

...Guess that's why I actually laughed out loud at the poor Analogy of Evan Brewer being likened to that of Tosin Abasi.....

Even in an Analogy, any self-respecting guitar player OR bass player will tell you that you really can't make an analogous comment about Solo Bassists vs. Solo Guitarists, since 99% of the time, the two genres of music they use are nigh on polar opposites.

To me, a far more relative Analogy would be: Evan Brewer is now the Metal equivalent to Aram Bedrosian.

They both have extremely similar Solo Bassing styles.
