Review Summary: Evan Brewer clearly displays he's a master at the bass guitar.
For those of you aren't familiar with Evan Brewer, allow me to educate you. He was the ex-bassist for the now defunct band Animosity, and is now the current bassist for death metal band The Faceless. And let me just tell you, I bet they are extremely happy they have such a fine bassist and musician in their line-up.
The only true way to explain his skill is an analogy - Evan's as good on the bass as Tosin Abasi (Animals as Leaders) is on the guitar. No note is left untouched, no string left unplucked. It's clear his dedication to the bass has payed off, and quite well I might add.
Alone is just a masterful display of musicianship. "Every sound heard on the album was done by a bass guitar in some way or another", as stated by Evan himself. You'll hear something that sounds like it should be in a Seinfeld introduction (Degenerate), or you can hear something that sounds like it belongs in a Final Fantasy game (Looking West). But no matter what you're hearing, it never leaves you in short of awe.
Being an instrument album (pun intended), you won't find any vocals on here. This is solely a display for Evan's amazing bass work found throughout all of
Alone. There are no drums, no guitars, just Evan and his trusty bass. Any bass musician - or fan of good progressive music in general, will find
Alone to be something that is very unique and interesting. From hiding away for a couple years to joining The Faceless and his solo work, it's safe to say we'll be seeing more of Evan Brewer's awesome skills.
