Review Summary: The Devil Wears Prada of deathcore antagonise us yet again with an obnoxiously terrible release.
Deathcore is a pretty sad guy, as far as genres go, and with each release from the rather intolerable
Chelsea Grin, his life gets progressively sadder. From the steady, depressive chugging to the unimaginably repetitive drum tracks,
Desolation of Eden is the mark of another truly sad experience in a genre that already suffers from boring and unimaginative run-of-the-mill half-assery that can only hope to constitute an album.
What the six-piece from Utah's capital city lack in innovation and originality they make up for with sheer irritation and obnoxiousness. I literally had to turn off all of their songs halfway through due to Koehler's ear-raping vocals. Regardless of how repetitive the instrumental work is, it all takes a back seat to the obnoxious screaming that's so asynchronous with the rest of the album that, if you told me the lyrics were written to a different music track, I wouldn't be surprised. Normally, I don't recommend listening to bad music, but if you think bands like
Impending Doom or
Postmortem Promises are bad, you need to listen to a song like "Recreant".
This band was bad to begin with - their EP made about as much sense as the invention of Christian black rapcore - but seriously. When I heard they were making a new record, I said to myself, "I could cry." Maybe it'll be better, maybe it won't. As for
Desolation of Eden, you could chalk this up as another below-average venture into an already suffering genre, but what really gets me is the god-awful sounds that the vocalist emits throughout this record. I can't help but wonder what made them
think that it would be a good idea to include Koehler as a vocalist, and even moreso, I can't understand why anyone - even their primarily-scene-ridden fan base - could possibly think that they sounded good. My head is sore. Thanks, Chelsea Grin.Â*Bottom line is, for a band that's bringing back the scene kids into a genre during a predominately-
Whitechapel and
Oceano era, their 2010 debut does exactly what you'd think: suck.Â*
Case closed.

Don't even think about listening. That's my recommendation.
