Review Summary: Ugh...This Again? A few friends of mine told me to look into this artist. They said he was the new icon of Dubstep. Hearing that, I went out and downloaded this release. It's only a 6 song digi release, so what's to loose on it if I hate it right?
Anyways, after downloading it, and listening to the first song, I instantly hated it. It's obvious that this guy didn't spend too much time on his music, and relied too much on a Joel Zimmerman influence. In other words, you end up getting stuck with a Deadmau5 dubstep, instead of a true dubstep. Some people like this, I do not though.
Lets go onto the actual tracks. Starting with the iconic Skrillex opening track, My Name Is Skrillex, you immediately get hit with a taste of what's to come. In other words, you don't get the notable dubstep drop, nor do you really get any of the wobbly bass effects that dubstep features. Instead, you get this really harsh, annoying screeching noise that turns into an album drum and bass effect with a bit more kick. True, this technically is dubstep, but it's something I'd call "nu dubstep" or something to that effect. In other words, calling this dubstep would be like calling Limp Bizkit metal.
The second track isn't much of an improvement compared to the first. True, you get a new artist in the mix, but that's about it. Same style as the first, same effect on the ears too. I do not recommend this album to anyone interested in dubstep. Why? Because this is not what dubstep is all about. This is the commercial high school stuff that people listen to because it's backed by other popular artists. Also, I tend to shy away from someone who claims to be able to make a track in 30 minutes....the 30 minutes before a show he's supposed to play.
Overall, if I were to be rating this out of 100 instead of 5, I'd give this an 18/100. If you want some good dubstep to listen to, go try someone like NiT GriT or even Nero.

terrible review
| | | Yeah, described this album based purely on stereotypes instead of what the music actually sounds like. The tone is also too casual.
You also kind of said, "This album doesn't feature what most dubstep features," and display a pretty clear ignorance of the genre.
| | | but 18/100 =/= 2/5
| | | I think Dev likes you, you got off with only two words, lol.
and..... but 18/100 =/= 2/5 [2].
'If you want some good dubstep to listen to, go try someone like NiT GriT or even Nero.'
You could even put this into the 'reccomended section'.

That's below 20%, which on the 5 point scale is a 1. Why did you not rate it a one? Are you neither gifted at English or mathematics? Your SAT scores are going to be near your IQ

| | | Filup.. shut up.
| | | Anyways, after clicking on this review, and reading the first line, I instantly hated it.

| | | It's not like sputnik is a site for serious reviews, guys. That wasn't sarcasm. It's site where anybody can make a review, so in depth nitpicking is frankly hilarious.
Not as hilarious, though, as this terrible album and terrible 'artists'.
Coulnd't get a song in. It's just more of the same spastic screeching. There's no artistry or melody to be found.
| | | LOL GRILLED BY DEVIANT
Nomos, Sputnik IS a site for serious reviews. lol
Otherwise you wouldn't see this,
Was this Review Well Written? Yes | No
| | | First review on this site yes. I mainly work with Discogs and RYM, both of which I've been reviewing for over 5 years a piece. I honestly can't stand this Skrillex crap. It's almost like what happened when Slipknot came out in the metal world. You get a lot of scene kids who transfer their attention over to it. Honestly, if this guy wasn't backed by Zimmerman, he wouldn't be popular at all.
| | | Haven't slipknot been around longer than scene?
| | | Depends on what scene you're talking about. Slipknot has their own scene. As do other groups like ICP and Limp Bizkit.
Oh, by the way, Deviant, I just saw your post. I'll post here if people want me to.
When it all comes down to it, I think that skrillex is a bad name in dubstep. I understand that genres evolve and move on quite frequently, but I just do not enjoy this guy's music.
| | | That literally didn't answer anything
