Release Date: 2004 | Tracklist

This EP is quite extraordinary featuring one studio song and the rest are live form the French capital Paris. The live tracks are some of Metallicas best such as The Four Horsemen, Motorbreath and a few more, I always like live songs because i'm interested in knowing what they sound like in front of a crowd and what not.

Track Number 1 : The Unnamed Feeling
This track coming from the album St. Anger isn't everyones cup of tea because it is a pretty new style and not everyone is used to it. I personally like this track some what, it's pretty slow in some parts and in others it goes into traditional Metallica style. However, the vocals aren't too good, Hetfield sounds odd in a bad way. I'v always like James' voic and respect him as being a great singer, as do many others but as I said he doesn't sound very good in my opinion. A decent track overall.
3/5

Track Number 2 : The Four Horsemen Live in Paris
This has always been one of my favourite Metallica tracks if not the and it pushes it even further up my list when its live. It is my favourite track on the EP but that could be because i've always loved this song, the crowd also enjoy this one as you can hear Htfield giving his lines up for them, he tries his best to interact with them and still keeps the song great. All the best parts from the studio version are featurd in this live track even the insane guitar solo, even though one has been kind of removed, which is even better live, just to prove Kirk can do it without being re touchd in the studio. James holds some of the notes longer than normal and also goes very high in some parts in the chorus when he is actually singing and not the crowd, it finishs earlir than the studio version but is just as good. You also get to hear Hetfield say bonjour :P
5/5

Track Number 3 : Damage Inc. Live In Paris
This cuts out the long winded introduction and gets straight into the drums banging away. The vocals are alot better than the studio version in this live track, even though i'm a great Metallica fan im not too familiar with this track but it does have a really good solo just after halfway through which proves Kirk to be a great guitarist. It then goes straight back in. Hetfield doesn't interact with the crowd at all in this song. I do actually like this song though.

Track Number 4 : leper Messiah Live In Paris
Very good song, the introduction is very effective and builds up to the first verse. It keeps you waiting but its worth it because of its greatness. The chorus is as heavy as ever and sounds as good as ever, Hetfield sounds great and the backing vocals suit the song excptionally well. Although it does get a bit repetitive it is very good and heavy just Metallica should be and hopefully always will be.
4/5

Track Number 5 : Motorbreath Live In Paris
Really good interactions with the crowd and just sound excellent, another one of my favourites on this EP but once again I have always like this track in the studio and live. It still has a great guitar solo even though it is very short it connects to the next verse. Then theres another face melter to link the verse to an instrumental interlude and then the end. Brillinat finish as well.
5/5

Track Number 6 : Ride The Lightning Live In Paris
Whooping into the crowd form Hetfield and an introduction to the members and Trujillo. Gets right into the song after that and a very heavy bridge to the first verse, another one of my Metallica favourites but im not too keen on the chorus its a bit chesy. Thats what I think anyway but others do often disagree with me. Hetfield once again sounds exceedingly good and suits the song very well, it also includes some technical and brilliant nstrumentation parts leading up to the crazy solo but it does suit the song which is what is often looked for in guitar solos. Kirk is known for his insane solos that dont fit but he contained himself this time. The pace picks up after the solo and sounds magnificent unfortunately it doesnt last as long as I would have hoped for but its still a cool song that is a highlight form this EP.
4.5/5

Track Number 7 : Hit The Lights Live In Paris
This is a song that is full of guitar talent in the studio and it stays like that live in Paris although Hetfield doesn't sound as good as he did back in '83 but whos complaining ? He still sounds f*cking awesome as do th solos that are just so cool. Its a pretty ridiculous song but I still love it because its fast and contains one of my favourite things in music, guitar solos that are wild, fast and out of control.
5/5

Pros - As good as the studio in all songs, Hetfield sounds as good as ever, Kirk still has his guitar talent as proven in Hit The Lights :P, and theres too many more :D

Cons - The Unnamed Feeling is from St. Anger kind of spoils the great EP. Although St. Anger is prtty decent, it is marginally worse than other albums from the godfathers of metal Metallica.

Awesome EP and I reccomend it to Metallica fans or n00bs to the Metallica front.

How did this get ahead of those other 2 reviews?

First reviews by a new reviewer have to be approved by Damrod or myself, and as I was writing a review, two new ones got submitted before I approved this one. So it was never top of the new reviews list. Good review...I actually have this, and it's kind of mediocre in my opinion, but 'tis still a good review.

This is the same as "Some Kind of Monster."

So I've noticed when I compared tracklistings. The only differences are that the first track on the Some Kind of Monster EP is the song with the same name and a shortened version of the first track is an eighth extra track on that EP.This Message Edited On 11.26.05

I'm just about the only person who wasn't mad at Lars Ulrich for suing Napster. I say good for him.

The Unnamed Feeling is from St. Anger kind of spoils the great EP
That was probably the purpose of the EP, but great review anyhow

The Unnamed Feeling actually isn't that bad. It's better than Some Kind of Monster, which brings the score on this EP higher than the Some Kind of Monster EP.

The 6 live tracks here would soon after be re-released on the 'Some Kind of Monster' EP.
