Review Summary: Most hard rocking album by Izzy, "Like a Dog" is one of the spin-of GN'R albums that most resembles "Appetite for Destruction".

A very unknown fact is that Izzy Stradlin was part of the project that would later be known as Velvet Revolver. Leaving for some reason, probably he didn't want to work with a lead vocalist (in this case, Scott Weiland), Izzy still used the hard rock disposition to make his following album, "Like a Dog".

The songs basically start with an electric guitar intro and/or riff. The riff of "Bomb", for example, is one of his best and is also used in the VR song "Do it for the kids", even though fitting is Izzy's track much better. The solos are well played too, and some of them a pretty nice, in special the one in SNAFU.

The lyrics may disappoint people who are expecting something such as "Patience" or "Shuffle it All" although. Some of the songs just repeat the same thing over and over again. Here are some examples:

"Hammer hammer hammer hammer hammerhead
Hammer hammer hammer hammer hammerhead
5000 miles
5000 miles
5000 miles
Yeah,
Here we go (drive), here we go (drive),
here we go (drive)"
Hammerhead

"Situation's ordinary, it's all ***ed up
Situation's ordinary, it's all ***ed up
Snafu, snafu, snafu, snafu
Had a little pain, taking cocaine
Looking funny trying to find yourself another vain
Had a little bread, taking cocaine
Looking funny trying to find yourself another vain"
Snafu

Keep in mind that everything else in those songs are just repetitions of the lines above. But, in some cases such as "Bomb", Stradlin vary his speech

Izzy's voice didn't change since his Guns N' Roses days, so if you didn't like his voice back then his performance here won't change your opinion, but if you liked, you will like in this album too. Rick Richards is no Slash, and even though used to play lighter songs in Izzy's albums, he does his job well in "Like a Dog". Duff McKagan doesn't play in this one and J.T. Longoria is far to be as good, but overall the band is good.

Recomended tracks:

Bomb
Hammerhead
Snafu
Like a Dog

Band:

Izzy Stradlin – guitar, bass guitar, lead vocals
Rick Richards – guitar
Taz Bentley – drums
J.T. Longoria – bass guitar
