This is a weird one but it's good pop shit. Jazzy and spacey at times too, not spacey in a Floyd/Hawkwind way but sort of new age/jazz fusion sound at times and it rules. It can get a bit too, um, "80s" sounding at times but it's good ass shit. Geddy's voice was fantastic at this point - no banshee sounds because it wouldn't fit this shit (plus he couldn't sing like that anymore in 87) - but he sounds like a seriously good singer. Killer bass, the Wal bass really suits the shit and has a farty, jazzy sound that reminds me of a hot chick farting all over me. And the synths can get a bit overboard but who gives a shit? It usually sounds sweet.
Alex takes a bit of a backseat but he's got some killer parts, like in Open Secrets (best song on the goddamn record), the solo in Lock and Key, he's got some really moody and atmospheric parts that are sorta like Steve Rothery but better and less Genesis-y, no disrespect to the fat man. Well, Alex is fat now too but yeah. Anyway, good ass shit. Neil rocks hard. Electronic kit makes some wild fucking sounds, I don't have prejudices. And the lyrics - fuck! Rush talking about real life topics, real intense philosophy, very positive stuff too but it's like, wild shit man. Tai Shan, man - I was leaving the R40 show in Atl and blared it with the windows down. Wild.
Killer!
