Review Summary: Just read the title for an apt description of this excellent album.
Jawbreaker were a revelation to many people going through bad times. Whether it's a rough relationship or depression, Black Schwartzenbach's lyrics could have easily helped you out. For this record, Blake and company got recorder and producer Steve Albini, notable for Shellac's At Action Park and Nirvana's In Utero, to provide a sound for them that fit their emotional sound. Blake has a very rough and deep voice, and his voice sears through Albini's mix with chugging guitars and violent drums. It's clear that Schwartzenbach's voice has a no-frills edge to it, and thus it fits the punk sound that Jawbreaker has. This album has tons of songs suitable for BMX videos or maybe even some parties, as 24 Hour Revenge Therapy manages to get some fun out of Blake's emotional tidal wave. If you see this album in the used CD store for a bargain price, please pick it up.
