Review Summary: Overall, a good CD.
Track Review:
1.Twisted Transistor-Starts off with silence and what sounds like a mid-evil crowd cheering. Rather weird beginning to a korn album. Then the song starts with a low tuned crunching guitar which is good. Then the rest of the band comes in. This song is definitely more pop than metal and doesn't have the speed of a nu-metal song. The chorus is awfully catchy to me, but the rest doesn't really stand out. There is some screaming, but not like the older stuff. It sounds like industrial metal. I don't think this song is the stand out song of the album. 3.5/5
2.Politics-Another crowd cheering at the beginning, and from the beginning, it sounds like another pop-like song. That changes very quickly as the chorus is fast, screams, and its catchy. Politics is good song and is a song that had me hooked from the first verse to the last chorus. 4.5/5
3.Hypocrites-The beginning is weird, its sounds kinda dark with the bass and the deep voice. It's kinda cool! Then Jon shouts "Hypocrites", and that's when I know that this song is gonna be good. It is fast paced, and it is pretty heavy. I like it alot. 4/5
4.Souvenir-This song isn't as good as Hypocrites or Politics, but it is a pretty good song. It has some screaming in it and the chorus is catchy. It is fast, but not as fast as the other songs. It is a little bit more like alternative metal than nu-metal. 3.5/5
5.10 or a 2 way-I particularly don't like this song. Its just not fast paced. Its not very heavy. There is a lot of pop in it. The best part of it was the ending with the bag pipes. It was cool to have the bag-pipes in there. Overall, I think it is the worst song on the track. 2.5/5
6.Throw Me Away-Even though the song is slow and has a whole crap load of pop on it. I still love it. When Jon sings the chorus, it kinda has that emotion that he had in his past albums. The bridge is the best part about it though. The chorus ends and then BOOM, the drums are slamming and then Jon starts screaming the words, and that whats makes this song a generally good song. It builds up to the middle, and then explodes, and then ends generally happy. 4/5
7.Love Songs-This songs is kinda poetic to me. Its hard, but its slow paced and lacks the nu-metal sound. It has a pretty catchy chorus, but nothing really stands out. 3/5
8.Open Up-This song is the second darkest song on the album and is arguably the best song. Its pretty hard on the verses and just before the choruses. The worst part is the middle. It's soft and its just to weak and lacks anything that brought korn to fame. It ends with the interlude with bag pipes and scatting vocals, and again i loved the ending. 4/5
9.Coming Undone-This song might be slow, but the beat with the riff is just too catchy for this song to be bad. Its some-what hard. But the chorus is catchy, the middle is hard with the guitars screeching, and it finishes good with the drums banging and the guitar going with the same rhythm. Good song overall. 4.5/5
10.Getting Off- Really hard song, fast paced. Jon almost screams every word and I LOVE IT! I don't under stand how people don't like this song. Its probably the closest to a nu metal song. It is another song that is arguably the best. 4.5/5
11.Liar-The guitars are hard, and the drums are the same. But the verses lack the screaming and the fast pace singing. The chorus and the middle save the song with the scatting vocals and the emotion. Plus the outro with the bagpipes was really cool too. Pretty good song, but not as good as the others. 3/5
12.For No One-This song isn't that good. To me, it reminds me of gangstas in da hood. Its too much pop. The chorus is OK, but nothing stands out. 2.5/5
13.Seen It All- This is the darkest song of the album. It reminds me of Halloween. Jon screams a lot of the lyrics and the song is fast paced. It has all the makings of a nu-metal song. The chorus is catchy. The middle is emotional, soft, but its still really good. You can hear the emotion in Jon's voice. This song I think is the best song on this CD. It also has the bagpipes on the end! Man! This song is just perfect! 5/5
14.Tearjerker-emotional, kinda fast paced, but lacks everything else. The song is kinda dark, but nothing stands out. I still like the song, its just not the same as what korn used to end with. 3/5
Overall, I find this CD good, but I think they could have left out "10 or a 2 way", and "For No One". Heck! I would add "Eaten Up Inside"! That was a good song. "Too Late I'm Dead" would have been another great one to add, but I am happy of how this CD turned out.
