Review Summary: Their Best album to date

The Aussie grind gabba’s fart their digital diarrhoea faster than expected on this already fourth studio album. Hardly one year after the furious typhoid-noise of ’World Of Lies’ frontman and larynx-destructor Luke Kenny gives us another collection of industrialised speedcore-grind. In my review of ‘World Of Lies’ I mentioned that The Berserker might have started to think about something that’s vaguely connected with terms like “song structure” and “composition”. I guess that scared the *** out of Luke, because this album is as blunt and merciless as ever.

The Berzerker also found more inspiration in grindcore than before. The bass-thundering gabba beats are a bit muffled away under the regurgitating roars of the good ole grindcore sound. Also Luke is vomiting like he’s soliciting for a job in Carcass, Exhumed, Repulsion, Regurgitate and Haemorrhage at the same time. This combination of grindcore and speedcore/gabba gives the music also an industrial touch and when we’re talking about speed, The Berzerker still gives the finger to every existing metronome. It only is a bit of a short statement. This Australian tornado takes hardly 29 minutes. Fast buyers can buy an extra hour of music if they grab the limited double CD edition, containing a live recording from a show in London, last December. You can hear on this live recording also cover songs from Morbid Angel (‘Chapel Of Ghouls’) and Carcass (‘Corporal Jigsore Quandary’).

Just like all previous Berzerker releases we have the so-called “Iron Dragon” on the album cover. It looks like he’s becoming the Eddie of the grindcore, although this consequence in sleeve design is more in the vein of Motörhead. For the first time it’s not drawn by Ivan Kenny-Sumiga (he was too busy removing), but by a French dude called Adrien Bousson. He became the winner of a contest “draw the new Berzerker album”, and his “Iron Dragon” looks more like a rancid “Meat Dragon”. It’s sickening, and therefore successful artwork. It’s also very suitable, because of the increasing grind elements; the album sounds fleshier and more organic than The Berzerker ever was. I kind of like it this way.

there are a lot of spelling mistakes and you go in and out of actually talking about their music too often, it's as if you prefer to lecture on their hitsory rather than state your opinion of their music

okay review
