Review Summary: Devastation at its finest, and even better on stage! Oceano dominates the deathcore scene with ultimate breakdowns and sweet melodic riffs.
Oceano place themselves as one of the most angriest bands on the planet, well I agree. This band exceeds the limits of hate and revulsion, they succeeded this on Depths and on stage. When I first saw them live at Thrash and Burn 2009 I was amazed by their presence only the third band up and already destroying the stage with angry postures and devastating breakdowns. Their album Depths is the best album to date unlike their 2nd album, The Contagion, this album produces a feeling of hatred and anger outside and inside the pit.
Oceano will never cease to impress me on stage but on record maybe. I really have high hopes for them and hope their next album isn't as bad as Contagion, but even heavier than Depths! This band has a lot of potential and they know it and they have to learn how to use it. I know it is hard to make new material but they can do it.
Lets take a look at the pros and cons
First: Adams vocals is the best thing from this album, powerful and aggressive achieving a low so incredibly disturbing it gives me goosebumps. His highs are even better so great and well used, all of his different ranges of vocals are very impressive, never over using them and always placing them in the right place.
Second: The guitar work so amazingly melodic but heavy as f**K. The guitar gives this album its devastating blow of power and a sense of uprising energy!
Now the Cons
First and only thing that didn't impress me were the over use of breakdowns at the end and the inability to hear the bass guitar. So disappointed, yet you can hear it live but not on record which is weird but what ever.
Over all this band keeps impressing me on stage and on this album Keep it up Oceano and better luck on the next album.
