Review Summary: Sororicide: the act of killing one's own sister.
Coming back from their 16 year hiatus, Iceland's death metal act Sororicide has produced a work that is sure to please death heads everywhere.
Here we have an EP produced in 2009 that sounds more like it's from the mid 90s death metal scene (no complaints there), and carries on in the same vein as their first LP, The Entity - the album which gave them their continental reputation in the first place. Musically, this EP retains the raw sound of the 90s with the familiar horrifying leads and a lot of blast beats from the drums (happy Sif). No surprise there, I suppose, when one finds out what their band name means. To give you an idea what this EP sounds like as first impression goes, the death growls and the riffs - as pointless comparisons are because these guys have more or less a unique sound - sound like the middle ground between the older Gorguts (minus their frequent tempo/structural changes) and Impetuous Ritual (minus their doomy pace). Sound wise I guarantee you that this treat of an EP will bring out nostalgia of the early death metal scene for you listeners.
My only complaint is that this brilliant EP is pretty much one of the shortest EP I've ever listened to, clocking at just less than 13 minutes. You know the feeling when your girlfriend stops the blowjob mid-way all of a sudden? You sit there, left wanting and frustrated, wondering what the *** is happening and why the *** she isnt finishing you off. Well, when the EP comes to a finish at the third track, you'll certainly feel a similar frustration from these sister-murderers. A shame really, and also it's really a big ask to purchase this thirteen minute EP for $20~$30 dollars unless you are really well off, so unless you can find a way to access this electronically, I recommend you avoid making a full transaction for an amazingly frustrating half-blowjob.
That said, quite an amazing effort from these Iceland folks. While their ice may be melting, it sure seems that their music isnt!
4/5.
