For the few human beings on this earth that are not aware of Tenacious D let me explain them to you; Tenacious D are a two brothers, Kyle Gass and Jack Black (from School of Rock). These brothers claim to be the pioneers of Acoustic Metal, a term that holds a question mark. This album is the landmark of what it means to be in Tenacious D of which includes Dave Grohl of FF and QOTSA and a few session musicians that accomapy our overweight heros. This album is seen in many people eyes as sheer brilliance but let me tell you how I see it...
This album is a very poor display mainly consisting of half written songs and little audio sketches of which include "Inward Singing" and "Karate Schnitzel". To me the little sketches and jokes are just a display of how bad two men can make Rock music look, sure they have talent but why let it go to waste with pathetic tracks like "Lee" and "One Note Song", these tracks like many are pointless and hugely irrelevant. The great mound of stupid American comedy hides most of what could be good tracks but alas that wouldn't be Jack Black; he always feels the need to be the best, the funniest, the most outgoing, the one who everyone will remember after they've all got pissed, it just can't work when he's being as immature as he can, I don't find it funny as he fails to impress with silly little scripts of jokes Primary School boys would die laughing at, they are not the one's who win you a Grammmy or a Brit, they just idolize you just because you say "Bum!" it's a waste of a proffession. This album is a symbol of how clever Jack Black really is, swearing for the millionth time in a song isn't clever or amusing, a song that consists of one note and yet more swearing isn't comedy brilliance or musical brilliance it's stupid and annoying and only hightens your own disability to be an intelliegent and adored person.
However crap the little one minute songs and boring sketches may be there is a very brief count of some decent songs; Tribute shows how Acoustic Rock music is a brilliant alternative to headbanging and that it is possible to use your full potential both musically and comediacally. The opening riff is a sign of musical understanding and there is some three dimensional thinking to these men. The fast paced rocker of Double Team is a good example of Acoustic metal in 5th gear with Jack delivering some great vocals. Naturally there will be a few faults bar the minute songs and sketches such as Wonderboy which tries too hard to be a good track and just disappears among the rubbish on this album. The final track, City Hall is overlong and becomes very irritating not to mention it's shadowed by Double Team, the best track on the album apart from the obvious favourite Tribute. There are times when I can say that these two brothers are aware of what good music is with the tracks such as Rock Your Socks and Explosivo where there are hints of AC/DC influences, it's just a shame they always feel the need to be silly which is this albums downfall.

On my last note I would like to say however much you people feel the need to hate me for writng this review I feel newcomers need to be aware of the facts about this album; it is extremley repetative and is not worthy to be claimed as an album, the inclusion of the sketches and OTT joke songs ruins the album and destroys the definition of an album, Jack and Kyle should just re-think their careers and check their IQ because this is hugely a load of Bollocks.
That's my opinion, that's my right, that is the real story behind this album.

I can't believe my review encouraged you to write this one. No matter how immature you think this album is, note that Tenacious D are suppose to be a humour band. Many people took "Life Is Peachy" from KoRn too seriously, but they wanted a break from their usual material by making a humour album. You're just like all those other people who take things to seriously in life. I'm not insulting you, just trying to let you know that you need more fun in you to appreciate such arts. This Message Edited On 10.30.05

It's not the swearing that makes this funny, it's the craziness of Jack Black.

If there wasn't Tenacious D, Jack Black wouldn't be where he is now, so this album wasn't a complete money making scam. This Message Edited On 10.30.05

No, Jack was in some movies before Tenacious D, but once he met with Kyle, he got bigger success from his later movies like School of Rock.
EDIT: I'm not being negative, you are just taking Tenacious D too seriously here. This Message Edited On 10.30.05

At least their skits aren't like any stupid skit you'd find on a rap album (example of stupid skit: "Ken Kaniff" from The Marshall Mathers LP).

I'm glad we have settled down and discussed our differences. Arguing just flooded up most of page 1.

Just look at my other reviews to see what I'm into.
| | | It's always a casual conversation.
| | | You really didn't describe this album too well, you bashed it instead of reviewing in.
| | | All you said was that you didn't like the album because the skits were stupid and immature but you failed to explain why.

Now for some civilised conversation:
Whose your favourite band?
Could you please try to stay on topic? Honestly, individual reviews are individual for a reason. To discuss the album and the band. If you want to discuss music in general, use the forums. If you want to talk to one guy, use IM services.
This album's pretty mediocre. Probably 2/5 for me.

At least I got HoboHead II back into the ring before he accidentally escaped.

No. I'm not an identity theif.
| | | Guys. Re-read my post. I told you all to stay on topic. Now you're off it, having seemingly completely ignored what I said. Hobohead, I quoted you when I told you to stay on topic, and as you've basically ignored that, you're banned for a week on this account. If you're going to make another one, I'd advise you to actually stay on topic in future.

To the person who wrote this review. It's comedy, if it's not your thing, then forget it, no ones asking you to like it. I found some of the skits hilarious when I first heard them when the album was released, and a few of the real tracks are actually pretty good songs with a comic twist.
This review sounds so uptight, it's funny. I'd give the album a solid 3/5 for being different, funny, and having a few decent songs.

I reckon it's a well written review even if I don't agree on the ratings. I thought Drive-Thru was hilarious though!

I was never deluded in the first place anyway, lol!!
I just think that this review does have major points about how humour really doesn't have a place in music, I agree with that. Music is supposed to be serious and meaningful really so that the outcome is interesting and not repetitive. But this album, unfortunately, really does repeat itself musicwise and "joke-wise" but it does have it's hilarious moments (eg. Drive-Thru), but the album is very limited and tends to really bore me.
But hey, that's my side of the story, you people may like humour and I really have a sense of humour, but I don't find it in music very well.

The jokes do wear thin after 10 minutes of listening to them and the produce of the actual songs are very average to me. They never seem to motivate me that much.

It's because we have amazing taste of music! lol

Man, you play guitar!!! Same here!!! lol
We are actually going off topic so we'll probably stop now.
To equal it off, this album is poor.
