Review Summary: It makes sense to forget what it takes... Charlie is destined for big things

For those of you who don't know who Charlie is, he is the frontman of post-hardcore group Fightstar.

This is his first solo ep and everything you hear has been written, played and sung by Charlie. The man is so talented (and underrated), this ep sounds better than what most 4 piece bands can produce.

First track and ep title 'When we were Lions' starts off with a caribbean drum beat and then comes the epic chorus. This song is about his long term failed relationship (think it was 9 years) and is the total opposite to the amazingly aggressive Fightstar's 'Deathcar'. The amazing lyrics continue throughout with the highlight being "I dreamed about you coming back, I dream that you never left". Amazing start to the EP!

'If I hide, would you come looking' starts with a piano tune and soon we hear another catchy song that will stick in the brain and have u humming along after a couple of listens. At only 2 minutes 34 seconds its quickly over. Not as good as the first track, but a solid song.

'The Farmer and his Gun' is the most diverse song on the ep, comes across as country music and shows the versatility of the music Charlie can produce. "Then I realised that I would dream of you tonight" sung beautifully with a harmonica in the background makes this song a love or hate track. Personally I think it's the weakest on the EP, which has so many standout songs.

'Bullet' gets back on track and is another brilliant song. The lyrics are sublime and mesmerising "I turn the radio up a bit, roll the window down and take it in, I'm going to fast but I don't give a ****, cus somethings chasing me and I have to win". I can just imagine pumping this song out the car window in summer. Beautiful.

Final song 'Lost' is the highlight for me. This song is big, uplifting and about being strong after you've lost someone you used to love and care for. The lyrics "I don't need anyore, anymore" and " I still feel, for you" but "I just can't look at you anymore" brings back emotions most people have felt after they have ended a relationship badly.

Overall, this EP leaves the listener wanting more at only 5 tracks long. The full album is expected around May 2011 and what a corker it shouldl be if it's anything like these songs!

Ok maybe a strong 4 to most, but 4.5 from me. Can hardly see any faults except .5 knocked off for Farmer and his gun.

I paid £15 for this (signed EP) on pledge. Worth every penny!
