Review Summary: Overall good CD worth Checking out if your into the modern Death Metal Scene
After the burial continues their musical brilliance in their third release in dreams. The CD would appeal to those of you who listen to August Burns Red and Meshuggah. Their previous CD Rareform was more melodic sounding. This one in my opinion is heavier but still has its melodic moments. I picked up the CD a few days ago thinking it was going to probably just sound like a (add on) to Rareform. To my surprise that was not the case at all. It definitely sounds much different than Rareform did. The new CD is a more complete overall than the last release, defining the band and what direction they are moving into. From good solos to a great mix uses of high and low vocals.
Many of the bands previous breakdowns seemed to have a lot of thought to them and were diverse. But breakdowns from In Dreams lacked the quality that they had from Rareform. This is really the only real complaint I have from the new CD. Many of the Breakdowns are also way to long and can bore the listener very quickly.
One exciting part in this CD and from the band in general is their use of guitar solos in their music. If you have listened to this band before you know what im talking about. There not short solos or mediocre solos by any means. Almost all of their solos are at least 10 seconds long and vary greatly from one another. This can be heard from the song “My Frailty”. This song is probably the best song on the CD and the breakdown isn’t boring which is another plus. Its just one of those songs you can listen to and not get bored of it easily.
The second song “Your troubles will cease and fortune will smile upon you” delivers a different vibe than some of the other songs. Much of the guitar work might remind you of the something The Faceless would do. The only complaint about the song for me is the breakdown is to long. One of the most memorable moments of the song is when the vocalist says, “we are the contortionists” repeatedly.
The fifth track “To carry you away” is probably my second favorite track on the CD. The song is more of a melodic track. But doesn’t have the same melodic sound as on Rareform. Once again a very long and boring breakdown.
The album clocks in at a little over 34 min and 8 songs.
For me, the CD was not a disappointment at all and would most likely appeal to many metal heads out there. 4.5 out of 5 for me I think it is one of the best metal CD’s of the year if not the best.
