Review Summary: Great band, brutal sound. Definately worth listening to, multiple, multiple times.

Hmm. This Glorious Tragedy. Some might say, "oh, another metalcore band. who cares." they should be shot in the face. Ths brutal, destructive band has all the elements of a great metal band, and more.

Lets start with the basic sound of the band. Many people think of ungodly fast, and complicated ryhthms and riffs, not the case with TGT. Of course, i'm not saying that what they write and play would be easily played by everyone. The stuff written, however, has more of a feeling, its not written to just impress others. The sound is filled with heavy, brutal ryhthms, and the breakdowns are cleverly written, everything just ties together.

The ryhthm, has that dark, murderous feeling, and leaves you waiting to see whats happening next. Perfect example: track 3, Atmospheric Euphoria. The intro is very simple, but ingenious in its flow. Eventually, it turns to more of a climactic, energizing sound. Then dropping into a heavy, gut wrenching piece of brutality. The bass lines, extremely effective at keeping a great ryhthm, do a great job in this, and every song. This definately goes to show, that not every song written, has to be blazingly fast. This also shows and exceptional detail in the creativeness of every aspect of their music.

Percussion. to some, all they think about is blast beats. Not the most effective tool in a creative musicians arsenal, not 100% of the time atleast. The talent of the drummer shines in every song, as you can clearly hear his distinctive sound in every song. The beat, staying in time perfectly at all times, works amazingly. It doesnt just sound like noise. The drums tie in perfectly, helping keep the sometimes smooth, and other times brutal, sound of TGT alive at all times. Like all the other sounds, the drums are clearly heard, but do not outshine the rest of the band, as we have seen in some of today's bands.

I've said that TGT can seem a bit slower, when compared to other metalcore bands. This can hold true some of the time, not that that destroys there sound. It can only enhance it. However, a perfect example of the fast, face-melting playing that is done, is track 2, or Spidermans Watching (Over Your Shoulder). The tapping intro is beautifly, and brutally, written. The ryhthm doesn't end this deep, dark sound however. The entirty of the song is dark, gripping, and destructive. The climactic point of the song (climactic ryhthms, used alot, and timed perfectly in the songs), leads you to another dark, ripping section. Of course, as always, the entire song is enveloped in gut-wrenching vocals, and flowing percussion.

Ah, the vocalist. Truly an important part of any band. TGT has a truly great one too. His low, eerie growls are dark, and blood curdling. When the high screams start, you know you're in for a good show. You can feel the deep, dark feeling of each lyric. There's no disappointment with the vocals in any song. They always grip you, making you want more. Truly great vocalists only com around so often, and TGT has one of the greatest.

So every song seems to capture the creativity in different areas, which is where track four comes in. Track four, As The Bridges Burn, incorporates almost every talent showcased, and doesn't fail to amaze. Straight from the beginning, a deep ryhthm, accompanied by the ever brutal vocalist, entices your ears. The percussion, showing off creative beats, eve some blast beats, which are incorporated well. Trem picking, a favorite for this song, keeps that dark sound alive, up to about half way through. Then tempo picks up greatly, a silver platter of interwoven melodies are a savory treat. The tempo drop, with its exptremely eerie sound, is an unexpected, and great ending, to a magnificent song.

Also, anyone who has had the pleasure of hearing all of this live, should not be disappointed. The sound is intact, and sounds just like ,(or even better), then the recorded version. Stage antics are always there, and definately keep a crowd interested. The overall sound of TGT live, or recorded, is something that no other band will be able to mimic.

This EP was an amazing start for TGT. The sound is great, and you know the music is coming from them, and not just written to be popular. I definately expect even greater things from TGT, and know they will not disappoint.

Irv, it was the only pic we had at the time.

soapman, nice talking shit about a band over the computer. When you get off your ass and do something that has any impact on the community or the local music scene, then you can talk shit. Till then, keep your fucking mouth shut.

I know you did. Which it definitely isn't in my opinion. lol
I bought this last night and I am listening to it right now.
I honestly don't know how I would rate it. You know that type of music isn't really my thing and there isn't really anything mind blowing on this but there is some good musicianship and the show last night was awesome. I hate the vocals on this though. He sounded a lot better at the concert, I think it might just be the way it is mixed.

My Dave is As the Bridges Burn, just because it's fun to play. I think we're definitley a better live band than we are on the record.

The vocal mixing was pretty wack though. Lol

Irving did you even read this review?

I did. I was just trying to give some encouragement to what I thought was a new user trying his hand at writing for the first time. There are some decent ideas in it, although I admit that this review is tempered somewhat by the fact that the reviewer and the band apparently know each other (?).

To be honest, I also actually spent most of my time trying to decide whether this was actually a legit band - and eventually ended up deciding to err on the side of caution. Thus my comment appeared the way it is.
