Brandon Flowers is a strange indie frontman. He has an obsession for all things sequinned, but that’s a good sign because many of the best musicians are… eccentric and if you don’t believe me look at David Bowie. But his band “The Killers” have turned into a worldwide sensation, but does their album have any substance? The answer is yes, a definite 100% we are here to change pop music culture yes!
You see, in my high school a lot of my friends are into rap music but all of them like the killers, so yes they are commercial and yes they are heralded as a pop band but they are listenable unlike the “music” that clutters the British charts today
That’s why I like them, they have become well known without basically, being crap and their album hot fuss shows this
Although it gets off to a weak start with jenny was a friend of mine they storm into full throttle with the first song on the album released as a single Mr Brightside is an amazing piece of music, with Brandon playing the synths and the rest of the band doing a great job it’s easy to see why this was a holiday and festival anthem. It just has the wow factor that so many singles lack and it doesn’t stop there. Smile like You Mean It, Somebody Told me and All These Things That I Have Done carry this trend of “singles that don’t suck” along spectacularly.
Then we come to Andy you’re a star, and it becomes clear that this is an amazing album, with the killers having the ability to make an album with amazing power and energy and carry it along with amazing strength minus On Top and Jenny Was a friend of mine
Then one of the two true standout tracks Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll comes along with a very good guitar riff for a pop/rock/indie band and keyboard to die for. It has Brandon signing about how he wants to be famous, which he has became.
It’s a really good song and one that deserves to become a classic
The other one of the two of the standout tracks is Midnight Show, a very, very, VERY raunchy track all about the advances Brandon has received since becoming famous yet another track that shines on this album
On Top, Jenny Was a friend of mine and Believe me Natalie are the tracks that don’t quite live up to the rest of the album but then again the rest are good enough to listen to on their own. It may be the fact the rest of the album is so damned good but they just aren’t as good as the others
*Everything will be alright*
as far as I know this wasn’t on the American album but I may be wrong
this is a great song to close the album with, slow, quiet and very nicely played, it closes the album perfectly
MAIN PRO*
All the songs except On Top, Jenny Was a friend of mine and believe me Natalie are amazing
MAIN CON-
