Review Summary: Save your time and money for their next full length.
It Prevails is a five piece, melodic hardcore band from Denver, Colorado. They are influenced heavily by bands like Shai Hulud, Strongarm and Lifetime. Much like Shai Hulud, the bands lyrics seem to draw from struggles of the human condition and society as a whole. The band has released two full lengths. (Capture & Embrace, The Inspiration)
Findings is the bands most recent release.
The three song Ep kicks off with "Placed In My Hands." The song itself has some well done drumming work but not much more than that. The harsh vocals seem forced as well as uninspired and the clean vocals sound exhausted. The song is not at all up to par with any of the bands previous work and almost sounds like a B-Side off of "Capture & Embrace." Next up is the track "Something More" which doesn't do much better than the first track. It sounds a lot like Underoath in the TOCS era and the vocals still sound tired and forced. The instrumentals however do their best to make up for this lack of inspiration but still can't quite pull it off.
"Mend Again" is the Ep's closer and is my personal favourite track off it. The vocals finally go back to the old style where it sounds like Ian is once again singing from the heart, instead of just trying to "knock off another song." The bands chemistry really comes into play for the song as well.
All in all the "Findings" Ep isn't really worth checking into except for the third track. I would save the money and just wait for the bands next full length which is hopefully, back to routine compared to this mediocre Ep.
