Review Summary: A great hardcore band overall and is definately on the rise, growing in lyrical depthness and musical prowess, this album contributes greatly to their growing list of LP's.
This is a five piece hardcore band out of Jacksonville, Florida and are named after the street that the simpsons live on. at the time this album was made the current members were: Andrew Carey - vocals, Craig Chaney - guitar + vocals, Joshua James - guitar + backing vocals, Kyle Mims - drums, Jason Southwell - bass. This is their sixth LP released so you know they been at it for a while. Formed in 1999, this band is starting to get some real attention.
We kick things off with "Bad Energy Troll" which starts things off hard and heavy to grab your attention. They don't give you any taste of the clean vocals just yet but don't worry this won't bore you and the rest of the album keeps the same general pace as this opener but still keeps originality and creativity by mixing in clean vocals and gang vocals. Next we hit a string of songs that mix the clean vocals with raspy and raw screams quite well and in these songs it rarely stalls when shifting back and forth. These songs attribute to the melodic aspect that Evergreen Terrace has incorporated. In the song "Chaney Can't Quite Riff Like Helmet's Page Hamilton" it ends with the verse "through black and blue, through thick and thin, it takes more to break the skin, looks like we've finally made it..." being chanted over an over as it fades and tells of adversity they have overcome with this album and that they are feeling good about where they're going. "Where There Is Fire We Will Carry Gasoline" is arguably the best song off the album mostly because it involves the most layers of sound that is very inspirational and the song writing is superb.
The sound that is heard mainly is definately on the melodic side of hardcore but that shouldn't turn you away form this well done album. The run time is just under 35 minutes and in terms of song length it's pretty all over the place from just over a minute to over 5 minutes. The minor issues on the album are the over use of breakdowns and that seems to be a problem with metal and hardcore bands recently. Towards the end of the album you'll probably notice that some of the guitar work is similar to that of earlier songs and its most likely because they just didn't know what to fill certain parts with hence cut and paste. Despite this they still bring great beats and great guitar work.
Best songs are:
- High Tide Or No Tide
- Where There Is Fire We Will Carry Gasoline
- Wolfbiker
