Today I'm going to be reviewing an album I really hated by a musician I really hate known as Drake. A Drake song can be described as any other song on the hit radio. It sounds the same and everyone likes to feature each other.
Thank Me Later has bigger names on it than the movie
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans had big actors. To be fair and honest, both are not really any good. I must say Drake does not deserve any of the hype he has gotten. My main problem with Drake is he has zero energy, he has the atmosphere of a funeral. His flow is also just awful. He has the flow of someone dying of death by slow brain cancer. When I first heard a Drake song, I wasn't impressed. I thought it was terrible. I thought it was Lil Wayne.
Call me ignorant for this, but why would I ever think he was Lil Wayne? Is it maybe because he sounds like a carbon copy of Lil Wayne? His whole style, everything, it sounds like Lil Wayne. The whole annoying auto-tune trend needs to die as well. It's really sad when Lil Wayne is the one you are copying, I mean if you're going to rip someone off, there are countless others that are better. Be it in the underground or be it in the past, you could copy someone better. Lyrics wise, he doesn't bring anything new and different that isn't already overplayed on radio. His lyrics are among the lines of money, how famous he is, and how he got "popular" in so little time. I have a load of problems with this guy, such as pretending to be something he is not. He didn't get popular in little time, people knew who he was. If it was by his real name or Jimmy the wheelchair kid, people know who he is. Now he wants to pretend like he wasn't on a very popular TV show? Besides lyric quality, his image is just very fake. In some of his songs he tries to act tough, he tries to act hard, acting like it's cool throwing around the n word. Anyone who's previous life was an actor on a very popular teen show called
Degrassi,is not hard and is not tough.
"Fireworks": Please tell me Alicia Keys is not this desperate for attention? She is so much more talented than Drake is. Drake's energy, lyrics, etc, everything I already said about him for this song isn't anything special. Alicia Keys in this song however, is treated like such a nobody. She is only used for a chorus, and not even a good or memorable chorus at that.
"Show Me a Good Time": Everything I said before is present here. Nothing special, nothing good, more terrible lyric delivery and just a boring and terrible song. One lyrics section I had a big problem with was this "Wu Tang Clan, niggas want that cream". Okay in Rap/Hip Hop, cream is a common term for rich wealthy items or money. Okay if he just said want that cream I would have been fine. It still would have sucked, but it would make sense. In the terms of the Wu Tang Clan, C.R.E.A.M. means Cash Rules Everything Around Me. How does it make any sense at all saying Wu Tang Clan niggas want that cash rules everything around me? It might be me just not liking this guy, but that was a very, very, very, very poorly written line.
"Up All Night": Drake is still proving he is nothing special, but this song features Nicki Minaj. Why do people like Nicki Minaj? It surely can not be because she is a good musician. Any song of hers and any song she is featured in, sucks. Her lyrical quality is terrible, her voice is so annoying. Why does she sound like such a gold digging whore? Her verses in this song are just so bad, they're worst than any of the songs I've heard by her and the ones that feature her. She is a stain on the music industry, she is so bad and annoying, she makes me forget how awful Drake and Lil Wayne are for just a few minutes.
"Miss Me": I feel this person has ruined the music industry, but this is the first time he appears on this album. Lil Wayne, gosh if he didn't make me hate him more. Anytime Lil Wayne is featured on a song it is if as he is trying to suck even more than usual, so he can make the person who's song he is featured in "look" better. Lil Wayne in this song is like second banana, I'll use an example comparison from Marc Mues. He is like a jobber, he is like Scotty 2 Hotty, like Al Snow, Funaki, the Brooklyn Brawler. That's what he is in this song, a jobber. He puts the real music crowd to sleep and looks like a jackass doing it.
To use another comparison from pro wrestling, Drake is the John Cena of hip hop today. He is very over hyped and overrated, and does not live up to anything that's been said about him. Hell, I'd rather listen to John Cena's
You Can't See Me than to hear this album again. At least John Cena's talk THEN GET REALLY LOUD formula he uses in his music and promos have energy. I will not review anymore songs, as any of them do not get better. I could go on and on about how terrible this album is and how bad it sucks, but I feel I've made my point. I honestly wanted to like this album, I honestly wanted to like Drake. There is no positive quality about Drake however. In conclusion to all hip hop fans, any fan of music who loves good music. To anyone who loves heavy metal, jazz, soul, any genre, do not buy this album, do not bother with this album. This album is one of many things wrong with the music industry. It's one of many reasons why hip hop on the radio is just so terrible.
