I have always liked War Of Ages because I feel like they naturally put two things together. The are able to put together a mix of Throwdown's fighting type style with the metal core/christian style of As I Lay Dying. I have always been impressed with how they can do this lyrically and so I am always pumping then when I go to the gym. I am looking forward to seeing them on the Cool Tour but with that being said I am not impressed with there newest album Eternal. Eternal is only ten tracks long and one of the songs is a easily forgotten instrumental track. So is there anything good to this album you might ask ?
War Of Ages gets two songs right that I recommend for download the songs Collapse and Desire. Collapse is good because it shows lyrically they still have it in them and they actually manage to squeeze in clean vocals and a good breakdown Desire is a good track because Tim Lambesis is in it and they manage to compliment themselves so well. This is one of my biggest problems though is that they are stuck in the shadow As I Lay Dying.
War Of Ages has trimmed done a lot of what has made them good and is now more formulaic as they try replicate As I Lay Dying but do not come of as good. Less breakdowns, less group chants, less empowering lines makes this album suffer. Listen to there old songs line “Wages Of Sin” or “Salvation” to know what I am talking about. They have always been like a Christian Throwdown to me and hey have cut out that part and are now just in the shadow of As I Lay Dying. Aside from some good guitar work and Tim Lambesis vocals nothing is exceptional. Lyrically they suffer, and I miss how they used to be, they need to go back and look at there roots and hopefully they come back stronger.
