Release Date: 2002 | Tracklist

Album: Does This Look Infected
Artist: Sum 41
Deryck Whibley (Sirbiznatch) - Guitar, Lead Vocals
Dave Baksh (The Right Honorable Sir Captain David Brownsound Of The First Airborne Rigiment Heavyweight Champion PHD) - Guitar, Vocals
Cone McCaslin - Bass, Vocals
Steve Jocz (Stevo Dirty Poo) - Drums, Vocals
Released: 2002 (Island)

The full second length release saw Sum 41 take on a harder edge from the previous album and e.p and saw it pay off. Many people regard Sum 41 as one of the only 'listenable' pop-punk bands out there in the mainstream. The four Canadians have put out their strongest album here.

The album is full of great musicianship. For pop-punk these guys manage to fuse metal solos and rock riffs and bring it together well. There are notable guitar solos in 'The Hell Song', 'No Brains' and 'Still Waiting'. The bass playing is nothing super special but it's still pretty good and Steve is a good drummer.

The lyrics are probably one of the albums best parts. 'Still Waiting' has some of the best "So am I still waiting, for this world to stop hating? Can't find a good reason, can't find hope to believe in" Deryck sings in the intro. Deryck does the majority of the bands singing but the whole group often swaps the mic slot giving some variety in the vocals and they can all sing. In 'Mr. Amsterdam' they give their best preformance of vocal ability and it's a great song.

There is a good variety in the songs here. From 40 second punk songs 'A.N.I.C' to slow melodic songs 'Hooch' there are no two songs that sound alike on the album. There are alot of stand out songs 'The Hell Song, Over My Head, Still Waiting, No Brains, Mr Amsterdam and Hooch' are all great songs. The only weak moments are 'My Direction and Billy Spleen'.

Overall 'Does This Look Infected' is a great pop-punk album. The musicianship of the album is done very well and the vocals and lyrics sound very good. There's alot of standout songs and it's an album worth definitely taking a listen to.

Catchy and fun, two very fitting words to describe this effort from a band that did, in their prime,...

It's one of my favourite all-time albums, but there's already a review on this.

Check the Archive thread.

I give the CD 4.5/5 though.

I like this cd a lot, I enjoy it very much, and it is more "metally" than All Killer No Filler. Hopefully their next album will be even more "metally". I give this cd a 4.5/5, for very good guitar riffs, good lyrics, good drumming and "good listenability" (sorry if I invented that word, but thats the only word that describes what I'm thinking).

This album was good except I wouldn't consider it pop-punk

I'm a nazi on these classifications, but I felt this album was more along the lines of somthing else, and there song "Hooch" was sort of like making fun of POD or copying them

Download "Boom" from POD then listen to Hooch
I think 'My Direction' deserves a bit more credit. I think it gives out a better Anti-Suicide kind of message than most bands can (Ex:Good Charlotte-Hold On).Sure, its not a really awesome song, but its not that bad.Billy Spleen...though...yeah...its not that good.Other than that-good review! :thumb:
i agree my direction is very underrated

this band is absolutley terrible. Im dont hate them, because they have fun with what they do but the music is generally ripped off and boring. The vocals are very annoying as well.

A 0/5? That's harsh. They may not be your favorite but they had to have worked pretty hard to get where they are today. At least give them some credit.

I was at their show and I realized that ANIC standed for Anna Nicole Is a Cunt, or at least so they say.

I can honestly say I haven't heard a band that has sounded like sum 41 on Does this look infected. Name one band that sounds like them.

Maybe on their previous two cd's they may sound generic but definately not on this album.

And, I give it a 4.5/5, sum 41 were and probably always will be one of my favourite bands :D
