Finally a band to bring back the glory days of Alice in Chains
Discovered by the great Fred Durst, Staind have been an extremely successful rock band that have released 6 albums in the last decade. Their album 'Break the Cycle' catapulted them into popularity because of singles like “It's Been a While” and “Outside”. With this album they polish their sound and provide an album full of emotion and great music.
The pain showed on this album by Aaron Lewis is both depressing and beautiful. Lewis can sing his emotions right to you, and that is half of what Staind is about. The album opener 'Price to Play' is an epic and heavy song. It's riff is crushing, which plays to Aaron Lewis who is angry through the whole song.
Aaron Lewis, the heart of the band, is the most emotional and honest vocalist in rock since the late great, Layne Staley. He is able to make you feel every bit of pain he feels all the way through the songs. But that's not to say that he is the only talented one. The guitarist, also reminiscent of Alice in Chains, can lay down some of the best riffs you will ever hear, but at the same time can beautifully compliment Aaron's voice.
Overall this album brings back the days of Alice in Chains, but doesn't do enough to elevate them to AiC's level. It still shows up most of the rock bands that are on the radio today which makes it worth a buy from anyone who likes rock music.
