Review Summary: Kottonmouth Kings follow the exact same formula since their begunning, but with a few improvements
Kottonmouth Kings have long been associated with smoking weed and being related to Insane Clown Posse. While none of that has really changed at all, this new album is somewhat decent. For the most part, the rap-rock is gone except for 5 or 6 songs. The cd consists mostly of rap songs throughout. The Kings also added a new member, The Dirtball. He brings speed and lyrical abilities to the now generic formula of the Kottonmouth Kings. Therefore this album has lots of flavor throughout.
Long Live The Kings starts off with a title track with a thumping beat and some exceptionally well done verses. This makes you want to listen to see if any of the next songs are good. Throughout the album, the songs are sprinkled with punk rock flavor (Rampage,Mad Respect), folk-styled songs(Kill The Pain, Simple & Free) and basic rap songs(Stomp, Party Monster Ft. Tech N9ne). The music on the cd is really good too. There are southern styled beats, Hardcore hip hop music, and some punk rock flourishes. The rapping has improved as well too with each rapper bringing a distinctive flow. The songs are interesting enough to say the least.
However, Long Live The Kings is full of flaws. The subject matter has been the same ever since they started. The only subjects they rap about are weed, partying, police hating, and women. They never vary it up so the songs can seem pretty boring. Also, not all of the songs are good.
F*** The Police with Insane clown posse is a terrible track and a few of the rap tracks are pretty boring.
Overall, a cd that’s not that bad but it could use a few improvements.
