Review Summary: play that funky music, white boy!
okay, before you read this, look this band up on google images and try not to laugh at this skinny white kid with his HUGE bottle glasses.
anyways, i found out about this band a couple years ago when i was in my nin stage (gahd, that was a horrible time in my life.. sorry, youre a homo if youre still into nin). for some reason the whitest boy alive popped up on "listeners also bought" section of the itunes store. back to the story, i decided to download their first album: "Dreams" after thinking that the band name was effin hilarious!
thank gahd i did. this is an amazing band from berlin, germany that plays this gorgeous, smoothe and silky indie jazz. all of the instrumentation isnt the most complex but its sooper tight yet airy. the lead singer (Erlend Øye, yea hes norwegian, whats really good??) has this awkwardly soothing voice that makes you wanna roll around in a soft, feathery bed ..no homo.. as well as singing, Øye plays the guitar. hes definitely not gonna win any "best guitarist of the year" award but he does what he needs to do to keep the song going. the bass line with the synth/piano is mother ***in funky! but my favorite instrument in this band has to be the drums. its just so precise and layed back that i cant help but airdrum along to the beat.
lyrically, this is kinda gay. i mean, mostly the entire album is about sadness, and break up.. yadda yadda yadda. oh well, at least i can dance while dude cries...
