Review Summary: 21 minutes of Systematic Chaos!

I like long songs. Especially ones I can sit and drink coffee to and not lose interest. Meshuggah combines the styles from their previous thrasher efforts with the slow groovier feel of Nothing and writes what I consider to be their best piece of work. Not once for me does this album drag or feel the least bit boring. Even in the crazy parts where you have to use both feet and hands to decipher the time signature that is used. Meshuggah also have mastered the uncanny ability to make these crazy parts in uncommon time signatures flow as well as a simple 4/4 song. This is all due to the remarkable rhythm section. In a way though, the whole band is the rhythm section.

The vocals are very unique because the singer pays close attention to how many syllables are in each lyric and he uses each to where they follow the rest of the band perfectly. This gives the overall sound a very robotic feel and is best described as "Systematic Chaos". The bass isn't heard in the mix often at all but the guitars are very bassy which in a way eliminates the overall need for a lot of bass. This is of course due to Meshuggah's signature use of their 8 string guitars.

This EP for me is Meshuggah's best work. Although it is very well written and feels very natural, it is not perfect. The production is my biggest complaint.

I once went to a grocery store to buy some nuts. I told my family I was going to buy beer because I wanted them to worry about me. When I came home with a sack of nuts I saw my CD of Meshuggah's Contradictions Collapse on my table desk. The record sounded like ***. It was my friend's CD.

What the fuck?

That isn't referring to Dream Theater. This blows the hell out of that album.

it's not the useless paragraph, it's just the short sentences that you use and your style, just write more reviews and get better
