Atreyu, a formerly underground metalcore band, but now mainstream mallcore band, started in...
WHO CARES. This band is terrible.
Track One: A Song For the Optimists: This song quietly fades in, until Alex barfs "Blow the last candle out, let the wax harden. I wish I could stop crying, I wish someone still loved me." This is as emo as the lyrics get, folks. the song is repetitive and boring, but sets a mood for the album-repetitive, boring and gay. Unfortunately, this is one of the best tracks on here. 1.5/5
Track Two: Dilated: "Yesterday, I forgot to breathe." Hmm....what's wrong with that? I wish you did, that way I wouldn't have to listen to this album anymore. This song is horrid. Lyrics, harmonies, chorus, everything. The only somewhat undistastrous part is the clean part, but
then the singing comes in and wrecks it, again. Terrible song 0.5/5
Track Three: Ain't Love Grand: Starts with a nice little drum fill. This one was a single. Then the crappy riff comes in, and guess what? Yeah, the singing again. Barf barf barf barf. Worst choice in history for a single. Annoying chorus, repetitive verses, and terrible songwriting. 0/5
Track Four: Living Each Day Like You're Already Dead: PLEASE. NO MORE. Alex's signature "barf" is, well, barfy, and Saller is off-key and beat as usual. Devoid of originality. I would almost rather listen to Ashlee Simpson live than this. This song's only redeeming feature is the bridge, which is chromatic and somewhat complex. 1/5
Track Five: Deanne the Arsonist: Halfway finished this trek of disaster. This is the most emo song on here, possibly. Also, he barfs a lot. Wow. By this point on the album I know what song is next without even hearing it. 0.5/5
Track Six: Someone's Standing on My Chest Nice clean intro, for about five seconds. Then barfy boy comes in. Then, some drums lead us in to Saller's off-key voice. This song is business as usual, barf, whine, barf, whine. There is only one good part, where "how do you gauge lonliness" is chanted. There is pretty heavy and cool riff going on there. 1.5/5
Track Seven: At Least I Know I'm A Sinner: Good opening riff, but then a guest vocalist named Efram Schultz (unknown band) joins in, doing a duet sort of thing with Saller. Efram's voice is irritating, but not so much as Saller's. Then, of course, after a promising start, the song fades into a state of repetitiveness, following the barf-whine formula. 1/5
Track Eight: Tulips Are Better: AAAAAAACK. That is truly the only word to describe this song. No musical value whatsoever. The song is akin to a floundering fish, as it goes nowhere. It needs serious help. 0/5
Track Nine: A Vampire's Lament: The most 'metal' song on here is not so bad. One of the best tracks on here. Cheesy lyrics and barfy vocals prevent it from getting any better than 2/5.
Track Ten: Lip Gloss and Black: Hmm... could be a Kittie title. It begins with a tapping lick, but then, the EXACT SAME RIFF from the first song kicks in. Oh, if only Alex had forgotten to breathe after "Dilated." 1.5/5
