Review Summary: BREAKDOWNS + BREAKDOWNS + MORE BREAKDOWNS!!!! = Desolation Of Eden????

In the past year or two we've seen many bands try their hardest to re ignite the flame we know as Deathcore though their efforts maybe large their results are pathetic. barely passable albums with annoying screams constant breakdowns which tend to aggravate one and some technical drumming which seems to be the highlight in majority of these bands.

Which brings me to Chelsea Grin a young band from America with a future that may be brilliant or maybe be a drag like many bands we've seen in the past not naming names "cough! Suicide Silence." Their Self Titled Ep was quite a constant blur of breakdowns and inhaled screams with minor talent shown in the sweep which made a song listenable for 20 seconds until it becomes an ear sore. that's what made people sceptics and think this new album would be a failed attempt at being "Brutal".

Desolation Of Eden, the first full length by Chelsea Grin has not disappointed in regards to the band moving in an upward direction. Though musically it wasn't a great album (not even that good to be honest), it was a bland and boring album with not much to offer besides breakdowns (there's plenty of those) with a subtle improvement in vocals due to him actually being able to execute an exhale scream which makes the band as a whole a lot more listenable. To be honest its not a major leap in a good direction though it wasn't a terrible album if you were to listen to the "better" tracks.

When initially listening to the release i was pleased that they were doing a bit more musically; offering a slight variation with sweeps and drum patterns that were mildly interesting. Though with the exception of the sweeps and few melodic riffs in the songs this album sounded all the same with those things i mentioned excluded you would not be able to tell a song from another the songs that did jump out from the rest would have been Sonnet Of The Wretched due to the catchy riff being initially played and repeated 3 more times during the song. False Sense Of Sanity was a clear rip off of about 4 other songs including a Suicide Silence song though that's not the last time they would take a page out of Suicide Silence's books as the outro (Wasteland) was basically all the same as ...and Then She Bled from their most recent album No Time To Bleed. Just to note that this band has 3 guitarists is quite sad that they could be playing such more technical music which they do have the potential to play though decide not to? also a catchy note was at 2 minutes in Recreant the sweep i enjoyed which was about all for that song as you guessed it eventually turns into a breakdown.

After listening to this album i was slightly disappointed that a band with such high potential has not done all they can to produce a great album, as for Deathcore Desolation Of Eden certainly does it no favour in prolonging its eventual demise.

Listenable Tracks:
Sonnet Of The Wretched
Cheyne Stokes (intrested me seeing the new version which vocals were much better executed)
The Human Condition (Mainly due to the catchy introduction)

First review in a long time, I've set it out set it out differently to what i used to,

just for a laugh I've decided to make a list of the breakdowns in the album

Judgement - It's just a large breakdown

Desolation Of Eden - 6

False Sense of Sanity - 2 that are each around a minute in legth

Sonnet Of The Wretched - 2 also

Cheyne Stokes - with the exception of around 40 seconds the whole songs a breakdown that changes tempo

The Human Condition - 3

Elysium - it also is just a breakdown the entire track

Recreant - 6 BREAKDOWNS!

Cast from Perfection - 3

Revenant - 4

Wasteland - 2 and a half minutes of pure breakdown

i honestly can't believe i had the patience to do this haha

good review but disagree. each breakdown fits the song perfectly except for a few of them, but if you wanna go listen to solo's, then go listen to death metal. if you wanna listen to breakdowns, listen to deathcore. it just depends on your taste. tech death metal will have 20 solo's is about each song, and can get overwhelming. it all just depends on what you like.

and to say that the whole song of elysium is a breakdown is really funny.

that's what i reckon i mean if not copy something that's been repeatedly done why not try doing something new? i know its easier said that done but bands like TBDM are fucking amazing and they wont stop going up coz they actually show off their talents in all areas (except for vocals Trevor shits me a bit)

ahahahahahaha. Yes!, Yes!!, YES!!!

But in all seriousness this CD couldn't suck more dick if it tried. Sometimes it's got it's moments, but they're far and few to really keep it's head above water
