A tyranny of souls is the lastest release of iron maidens front man Bruce Dickinson solo collection.
1. Mars Within (intro)- To get an idea of this song , imagine if hell had theme music. The theme music would definatley be this. It is very, very dark and devilish sounding. This intro is mostly instrumental except for a few moments where bruce is mumbling something about demons.
As for a song it isnt very good, but for a intro it really gets you hyped for the next song. As a intro i would rate it (3.5/5)
2.Abduction - Abduction is the first single to come off this cd. The songs intro and verses are quite "heavy", but, as the song moves along bruce comes in with a chourse that even the most mainstream cd buyers would even enjoy. Also, if your a guitar player the guitar solo will blow your mind, nothing short from extravegent the solo is. The guitar playing is truely excelent on this album .The vereses kind of put me off but the chourse and guitar solo drag me right back in. I rate this song a (4/5)
3.Soul intruders - This song, in my oppinion, sounds like 2 differnt metal bands comming together for one song.The intro is very children of bodom ish, as is also the guitar solo (which is amazing), the verses and chourse are very maiden like (pure metal). The verses are all quite fast and pretty heavy, but during the chourse it all slows down and gets very melodic. Bruce seems to be the master of making heavy melodic songs. I would rate this song only a (4/5) due to the fact that the chourse kind of makes you stop headbanging.
4.Kill devil hill- This is one of my favorites on the album. The chourse is very movie-ish. Its a good chourse,but, it sounds like the music you would hear in a world war 2 movie where everyone is dying out on the battle field. It most sounds like this right after the chourse as well. It has a very "emotional" sounding post-chourse, which makes you a tad deppresed but really makes you have a feel for this song. I dont know anyone who wouldnt love this kill devil hills chourse. I rate this song a (4/5).
5.Navigate the seas of the sun- This song has to bee one of my favorites on the whole album. After hearing the first 4 songs on this cd, your expecting to hear some stright out metal metal. But, instead you get a extremely beautiful acoustic song. The song itself is quite emotional when listening to it. The acoustic guitars make this one of my top ten most beautiful songs ever. I rate this a (5/5).
6. River of no return- After your nice acoustic break, bruce comes back with this slow but evil sounding song. The chourse is very dark sounding. The chourse would most probably played in the backround of some crucifieing scene in a movie. The verse is very powerful and you get to know whos boss. This song sounds truely evil. I give it a (4/5).
7.Power of the sun- In my oppinion this has to be the most iron maiden sounding track of em all on here. The chourse will never get out of your head.It just repeats over and over in your head. You just want to shout out the words to it. I think this song should have come in as the first single. The song is completely catchy and will never get out of you head.
I give it a (5/5).
8.Devil on a hog- This should be a headbangers anthem. Nice solid rhtym. Not too fast not too slow. its just good ole rock and roll. Great sounding double vocals on the chourse. Great track (5/5)
9.Believel- Thes first 3:00 minutes of this song kind of sucks. Its pretty much bruce talking with these weird sounding guitars. Sounds kind of like what you would hear in a alien movie. But, after the first 3 minutes the guitar comes in along with the drums and bass. But most people wont even listen that far because the begining is just too terrible. I rate it a (1/5).
10.A tyranny of souls- The title track of this album. It has a nice slow but very metal feeling to it. The verses are a bit iffy but the chourse redeems the rest of the song. For a title track it isnt that a great of a song. It has definatley a good chourse, but no other features that make me enjoy it. I rate this song a (3/5)
Out of this whole cd there are really only 1 song that isnt up to par with the rest of the album. It has great guitar work and in my oppinion one of his better solo albums. A definate buy. (4.5/5)
