Review Summary: Aural equivalent to pizza.
Jouhou, like an arrow exiting the comfort of its bow, is vicious. It is propelled into the depths of one's body and infects the victim with its poison, which, of course, is a disturbing process to witness. The victim writhes in pain, their body contorts in unnatural, painful positions that unnerve the eye and are loathsome to the body. Unless if one is used to such aural assaults, this effort from Discordance Axis will be an uncomfortable experience to say the least. With such powerful instrumentation and lightning-fast speeds, it's no doubt that this poisoned arrow is so fatal, so lethal to the sufferer.
The drums are a sheer test of physical prowess for the arms. How fast can one go? How well can one keep time? How well can one change time signatures and still make a steady beat? How can one do all of these things simultaneously? The guitar (yes only one) is used as a tool to exert rough riffage that only adds richness to Discordance Axis' brand of poison. Instrumentally, the guitars perfectly match the raw emotion that is portrayed throughout on this album. And oh the vocals! The vocals are the most horrifying part of the mix. They are completely inhuman. They're an insane man's torture mechanism. They embody and encompass sheer destruction. Ranging from the highest shrieks that have departed from the throat, to the lowest lows that inhabit the vocal cords, Jon Chang delivers the most horrifying displays of passion and emotion ever recorded for the public. Perhaps somewhere, there is a more efficient, more terrifying emotional vigor. But that is one of those things better left unheard, undiscovered.
To sum of thirty-two tracks of pure, unadulterated chaos, all one needs to do is to be able to feel emotion, and enjoy all of the most extremely unnatural, boisterous discord that the world has to offer.
The production value is gritty, the vocals are shocking, the instrumentation is inventive and suits the music with its speedy dissonance. Such a monstrosity has never been so sublime.
