Review Summary: It is strange...it is electro...it is repetitive...it is Peaches

When you say sassy, nasty, vulgar and chubby, the first person that comes to mind is electro-clash artist Peaches. Also known as Merrill Beth Nisker the now forty-two year old released her first album under the name Peaches in the year 2000. Recorded in her apartment with then roommate, indie singer Feist doing backing vocals, Teaches of Peaches is an album that cannot be captured in words easily.

Opening with her first single, *** The Pain Away is the song that busted Peaches into the underground electro-clash world due to it being featured in numerous movies including the ever popular Jackass film. The song, while repetitive, has unique and fun lyrics referencing both Blondie and Chrissie Hynde with the line, “Callin’ me all the time like Blondie/Check out my Chrissie beHynde/its fine all of the time.” The album tends to follow this same trend of wild and repetitive lyrics with a taste of vulgarity, notable with song names like, AA XXX, Cum Undone, and Lovertits.

Peaches makes the point clear about who she is, and what she’s wants to be in the music world. All though her music to some is a joke, they do not understand that she means for it to be that way, she is aware she is unattractive to most. Why else would she be running around with a curly mullet and have an album cover of her hairy legs? She uses this extremeness to capture the attention of the people, and it is working.

The strongest song on the album is the catchy and rhythmic, Set It Off, even if you do not like the song the simplistic beat, and hooky lyrics will get the song stuck in your head for weeks. “Mother***ers wanna get with me/lay with me/love with me/all…right.” Unfortunately, this is the only track on the entire album that can stand well on its own though. All the rest would just sound downright strange being listened to out of context of the album. Actually even in context this will sound strange to some, but that is just Peaches style.

It is rather hard to pick a “weak track” off this album because their all equal in quality of all parts, beat, lyrics, and vocals. Not to say that these are fantastic to begin with, but it still develops as a fun album that is a guilty pleasure for many.

Since Teaches of Peaches, Nisker has released three more albums, Impeach My Bush, Father***er, and I Feel Cream, and she is still not stopping. Whither you like it or not Peaches is like a crashing tsunami, completely unpredictable and wild. She is going to keeps doing what she wants, whenever she wants, and Teaches of Peaches was her unique birth into the underground electro scene.

I don't believe Trent Reznor allowed this act to open for him when I saw them. I wanted to gouge my eyes out when I saw that bitch in her underwear on stage.
