Review Summary: In their fourth studio release, Disturbed has possibly made their best album yet. A must-buy.
If Disturbed had not already found their niche among today's rock bands, they have done so with Indestructible. Disturbed has made their darkest album yet, but they still manage to keep it mainstream sounding with plenty of melody and abrasiveness both. You'll find what may be Disturbed's two best ever songs on this album, as well as a strong supporting cast of tracks to get pumped to. The album is a little softer than Ten Thousand Fists (2005) but more dark lyrically and musically. As a band, Disturbed has hit their peak with Indestructible.
INDESTRUCTIBLE (3.5 out of 5)
It's not the best song on the album, but it's a great song to listen to when you're working out. It actually gives you the feeling of indestructibility. But if you're a Disturbed fan whose listening to this album for the first time, this song won't be a disappointment.
INSIDE THE FIRE (5 out of 5)
Disturbed's best ever? Maybe. The song is about the suicide of David Draiman's teenage girlfriend, so that's what I meant when I said the lyrics were darker. The music is awesome, too, featuring a great solo from Dan Donegan. After listening to the first two tracks, you'll realize that Disturbed is on top of their game.
DECEIVER (2.5 out of 5)
The song starts with David screaming nu metal style, but he returns to his regular style of singing. The chorus is solid, but that's the only solid thing about the song. The bridge is ruined by David's nu metal wails. Nu metal died out a long time ago, and that's a good thing.
THE NIGHT (5 out of 5)
This is the second epic song here. The music and lyrics are both dark and intruiging, and the vocals are maybe Draiman's best on the album. The verses build into a great chorus. The music isn't too hard nor too soft. Each band member is great here, especially Donegan who gives another ripping solo. Nothing wrong with this song. Maybe better than "Inside the Fire."
PERFECT INSANITY (3 out of 5)
This song has been sitting around since the late 1990s, and you can tell. It sounds like it's straight off of The Sickness (2000). It's still a good song, though, that stands as one of the better ones they wrote in that time period. Less nu-metalish than you may think with Draiman giving solid vocals.
HAUNTED (4.5 out of 5)
This may be the darkest song on the album. The lyrics are depressing, but the music overshadows it. The music work by the band is outstanding. It's not a song to get depressed to, it's a song to kick some ass to. Draiman's vocals are very abrasive in the verses and soft in the chorus, and it works to perfection.
ENOUGH (4 out of 5)
The intro builds into a well-sung verse by Draiman that is backed by terrific drumming, and it leads to a chorus that is much more emotional and less fist-pumping than most Disturbed songs. Draiman's screams in the bridge are the only con to this song, but if you like screaming, it may be your favorite song here.
THE CURSE (3 out of 5)
The lyrics aren't too special on this song, but overall, Disturbed doesn't do much to mess up this song. It's just a simple Disturbed song.
TORN (4.5 out of 5)
The highlight of this song is that Donegan gives another great solo, maybe his best yet (except "The Night"). The vocals in the chorus are great, maybe Draiman's best on the album. A great song from beginning to end, and it gives the album some energy back after a mediocre "The Curse."
CRIMINAL (3 out of 5)
It starts with Draiman speaking over some pretty good music. You get the feeling it may be a good song. But it quickly turns into a song sounding like Korn or Limp Bizkit. David keeps his nu metal vocals throughout the entire song, which aren't as good as his singing. The music, though, is solid throughout, keeping the song above mediocrity.
DIVIDE (2 out of 5)
David continues his nu metal vocals from the last song. This may be the heaviest song from the album, and it sounds kind of like The Sickness. The repeating line of "divide, divide, divide" in the chorus gets really annoying.
FACADE (3.5 out of 5)
I'm happy this album closed out solidly. David returns to his just singing. After a great album, "Facade" gives a solid finishing touch. Nothing special but nothing bad.
PROS
-Draiman's vocals are usually great
-rest of the band shines moreso than on previous records

-6 of the 12 songs may be 6 of Disturbed's best
CONS
-Draiman's screaming (even though it's mild)
-a couple really mediocre songs ("Divide" and "Deceiver")
