Review Summary: Take note, it's only a matter of time before the name Die Queen Die will be common place.
In a scene that of late has played favorite to tired gimmicks, and lack luster music ship; it's a wonderful breath of fresh air hearing something which breaks away from the drone of excessive guitar chugging and obnoxious auto tuned vocals. The band is Orange County California's Die Queen Die, their new five song EP is titled 'My Mistress The Sea,' and it aims to prove that pretentious gimmicks are no match for dedication, and sincerity.
Right from the EP's get go DQD make their musical intent clear with their hard hitting, guitar shredding, all out post hardcore assault. Each of the five songs presented on My Mistress The Sea possess the same delightful balance of crushing force coupled with catchy melody; all the while never coming off as whiny or contrived... a note worthy feat within and of it's self. Whether it be the incredibly dynamic, complementing/contrasting vocal delivery, the fearless guitar work of both driving rhythm and blinding leads, the well placed accenting bass lines or the tight, ultra technical drumming; each of the elements which make up MMTS clearly bring their own valuable contribution to the table.
Die Queen Die have done something the majority of modern post hardcore bands have repeatedly failed at; forging their own unique sound. Before us now are a band on the verge of truly coming into their own, and their new EP My Mistress The Sea will be the spring board catapulting them to the next level.
