Review Summary: In the mood for some headbanging or moshpit..ing? Then you'll love this album. If you're just in the mood for a death metal/deathcore album that doesn't suck raging horse penis, you'll probably want to stay away.

As I was browsing my last.fm recommendations, I came across a band called Years Spent Cold. Now, after reading their description and looking at the list of tags they had, I still wasn't entirely interested in listening to their music, but I did anyways. While Moving Heaven From Hell may not be the most generic '___core' release of last year, it certainly isn't the greatest. Any of the positives of the album are quickly drowned out by the vocalist Kurt's, monotone and unchanging growl. The entire album is filled with nothing but the average chugging, growling, gurgling, beats, riffs, and multiple breakdowns you would expect to find in a band like this.

After the intro finishes up, we're thrown into the 2nd track, Ear to Ear. Kurt throughout the entire song seems to be doing nothing other than repeating "ARGH" and "URGH", he sounds like he's in pain to be honest. He does break into a higher scream at one point during the song, but to be honest, the only difference between these less-than-ten-seconds and the 30 minutes of his constipated growls are that be appears to have added a 'Y' to the beginning of his 2 letter dictionary. While the guitar work does break the monotony at times, it's nothing worth mentioning. The entire album sounds like something you've heard a thousand times before, and nothing really stands out.

Now, this band does have potential, but so much of their effort was used up on trying to cram as many breakdowns as possible into one song, trying to sounds as angry and brutal as possible, and trying to keep every song sounding exactly the same. Hell, I got 4 tracks in and could have sworn it was the same track. The transitions might be noticeable if you pay attention, but I was too turned off by the monotone growls and occasional monotone screams and gang yelling.

Overall, this album is nothing new. Years Spent Cold doesn't bring anything new to the ___core scene, and at times sounds like it's trying to be a scenecore group. If you're in the mood for a brutal album that's good for headbanging in the middle of your living room, go ahead and check it out. But if you're looking for something that you won't forget you bought or downloaded a few days later, don't bother.

I know what you mean that it all sounds the same. Its hard for me to listen to for more then a couple of tracks. But I do like ear to ear but it sounds like they just played the halloween theme and added a breakdown over it.

i'm sorry, but this is _by far_ the best moshcore band on this planet. they even beat emmure. the breakdowns and especially the constant(!) brutality of the vocals are of a UNIQUE quality and all is so full of hate, pressure and swet that you can even TASTE it!!

i heard this album for about a hundred times now and it NEVER becomes boring.

unbelievable release, keep this coming guys.

i know, accept and respect that this is more an alternative/indie/rock/post-X site or fanbase, but in return _you_ have to tolerate other genres, too.

so don't bitch around about genres you never heard, you dislike, hate, or have no clue about. moshcore has to be recognized in just the same amount like bigger genres. i for myself don't register in some hip hop forums/sites to bitch around how "bad" and "dumb" there music is as well. so don't act like fools and write stuff like "emmure sucks", "omg they beat emmure" etc when you don't know a shit about this music, or dislike it in general. i won't offend some of your music taste, and IF - then with some manners and in a critic way, not in some sarcastic questions and offending sentences.

just my 2 cents

ty.

ps: emmure have so brutal, deep and slow breakdowns - some are beyond imagination. plz show me one _serious_ band aside from YSP that plays the same kind of music, but does it better than emmure. i'm sorry but you wont find one. there are no deeper, slower or more brutal breakdowns out there in moshcore. and that its all about. what counts. add some brutal vocals, some gangshouts and some good ideas and thats it. suicide silence have some nice, deep and slow breakdowns, too. but they are deathcore. too much blasting, too much bree, too much away from good old hardcore roots. so give me one moshcore band better than emmure and i will send some cookies. word.

Thing is I've probably listened to more metal (including all the sub genres that it encapsulates) than you and unfortunately Emmure suck. Really badly suck. But hey welcome to the site

surely not, mynameischan. why should i? only live and let live.

and for genres gaslightanthem - i'm happy for you and all your genres. and all your thoughts of supremacy. i keep you in that belief, until we know each other better.

and no, emmure don't suck. not for me. and not for X-thousand other listeners around the globe, that can't hear the same standard riff and breakdown shit of this days selftitled metalcore "kings"(KsE, Caliban, HSB, Unearth, All That Remains - all new releases were overproduced standard shit, nothing special, nothing good). so guys who loved old metalcore beginnings, where innovation and brutality reigned, have to search for innovation. so i enjoy melody (e.g. misery signals), technical finesse (e.g. august burns red), math-parts (converge/between the buried and me), over the top ideas (see you next tuesday/arsonists get all the girls), and surely also "pure hate/brutality", like emmure and years spent cold. and now plz don't try to judge about me or my genre knowledges. i give you another 20 bands for all of the genres in 10 seconds, and another 300 bands of maybe your favourite, so beloved "metal" genres, like thrash, speed, death, tech death, black, doom, etc metal. it's all okay, i tolerate all. but let me love what i like most. so do i, for your taste.

yes but you need at at least acknowledge that Emmure is awful and moshcore as a whole is a waste of time and money before your opinion will be taken seriously

hmm i think it's more a question of acceptance. emmure may look like hoppers, attract a younger audience, behave very vain and sniffy, and play nothing hard or no technical masterstrokes - but all in all they go their own way and create a new era of breakdowns and brutality. they may seem like assholes to some oldschool metal hearers, i can perfectly understand this, but in the end they love their music and all what they play and present in exact the same way, like slayer does for speed/thrash, soulfly for neo thrash, etc. and so they need respect, too. even if they are hyped. even if 80% kids are hearing them.

"a waste of time and money"...i'm sorry. but _music_ will _never_ be a waste of time and money. if you truly love it, you would show an other behaviour. you would tolerate such genres.

last example. i for myself dislike pagan. and? shall i go now, and search twenty reviews for pagan records to bitch around there? say how "a waste of time and money" it is? oh my god, sorry - but there are really guys out there, that love this kind of music. so i let them hear it and all is fine.

"a waste of time and money" ...no offense but it owns me again and again. a music portal where some guy says that a part of music should better not exist. nice one. you really got me. not :/

i never understood this argument, because nobody does this

this review was on the front page and people decided to talk about their opinions because they were bored, that is the purpose of this website

probably the best nu metal album of all times, even more hits and better produced than "hybrid theory". so why not a five? i can take it out of the shelf and perfectly enjoy one or the other track. yes, there was a time when hearing linkin park was nothing bad and nu metal wasn't the genre everyone hype and hated(this started when limp bizkit, korn and slipknot went mainstream).

nice, trivial hate here again .)

no, iarescientists. false facts.

it was on the front page. _nobody_ discussed about it, only RAGE12 gave a short statement.

then my detailed comment came. _weeks_ later.

the word emmure fell.

the selftitled experts and site police are on the spot.

dont try to tell me there was a huge discussion going on before 11

again you are underestimating.
