Review Summary: All in all, it’s a decent album. Repetition makes for a tiring experience, but kickass vocals and high technicality make for an exciting contrast that dies quickly.
A quick Google search will grant you the literal meaning of cloacal kissing - it’s a bird aficionado’s way of generally saying “birds having sexual intercourse,” as the way that the birds put their genitals together kind of looks like a kiss in some sort of sick way.
Does that give you any indication as to what this band sounds like?
Cloacal Kiss was formed from the ashes of The Sawtooth Grin, an equally and often similar band. The grindcore elements shine through in the vocals, slightly reminiscent of Discordance Axis and Gridlink’s Jon Chang and even Anal Cunt’s Seth Putnam.
All in all, it’s a decent album. Repetition makes for a tiring experience, but kickass vocals and high technicality make for an exciting contrast that dies quickly. Lyrically, I have no idea what the *** is going on, but in following the footsteps of The Sawtooth Grin, they’re probably reminiscent of poetic grind lyrics a la J.R. Hayes and Jon Chang. Give it a chance; if you don’t like it then whatever, you have yourself to blame.
