Pros

-Great improvement on the remixed version
-All that megadeth do best

Cons

-How can you write a song without being inspired?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree on the point that this album was underrated. Maybe because of the huge success of its predecessor, successor. But I think that this album does not feel like the others from megadeth. Lyrically, this album is really uninspired in some songs. I don’t want to hear a song about driving fast. And drunk… I don’t want to hear a song about the legend of Mary Jane too. But, on some points, it is one of their greatest album too. Some songs are of their best, and got the classic megadeth feel attached to them. Some of these songs are the instrumental Into the lungs of hell , set the world afire, in my darkest hour and hook in mouth.

Track reviews

Into the lungs of hell-A pretty cool song with fast riffs, a couple of solos. Classic megadeth. (4.5/5)

Set the world afire-The first song that Mustaine wrote after being kicked out of Metallica. This one is about apocalypse the countless riffs that it features makes it a masterpiece. (5/5)

Anarchy in the U.K.-I don’t think that anyone will agree with me here but… I think that this song is a shame. They did a video for it. It is not their song. Mustaine doesn’t even get the lyrics right. Plus, I don’t think that a cover has its place on any record, and certainly less in a TV. This song is a filler. (2/5)

Mary Jane -I hate the lyrics in this song. Hate them. But there is something special about this song, which makes it nice. It is really different if you compare to every other megadeth’s songs. And the music is pretty cool too. Also, take a look at the difference between this mix and Paul Lanni’s. (4/5)

502-This song is like Mary Jane to me, except on the point of the originality. This song feels completely uninspired. A song about driving fast, drunk, eating burgers. What can you ask more…(3/5)

In my darkest hour-The most surprising song all over the record. Mustaine wrote this one when he learnt about Cliff Burton’s (metallica’s bassman) death. The guitar work, lyrics and feeling make this one a really good song. (5/5)

Liar-This song reminds me of countdown to extinction’s skin o’ my teeth. The lyrics are… bad. Speaks about ex-girlfriend. Horrible. But the vocals are quite cool, except when the ‘’ LIAR,LIAR,LIAR’’ part arrives. The song is uninspired too. (3/5)

Hook in mouth-My favourite on the album. Hook in mouth is a song that express Mustaine’s rage about the P.M.R.C. The lyrics are really cool there. The riffs are all special and suits the song perfectly. I’M NOT A FISH, I’M A MAN. HOOK IN MOUTH! These lyrics surely made P.M.R.C think about what they were doing.(5/5)

Bonus songs-The bonus songs on the remixed/remastered version are:into the lungs of hell, set the world afire, Mary Jane and In my darkest hour. You will hear major differences between the remixed songs and these Paul Lanni’s mixes. The most surprising is surely Mary Jane. (4/5)

An album that most of megadeth’s fans should own.

older megadeth is truly so much better than their new stuff. Maty Friedman is the better guitarist but the music overall is better

Maybe Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction but the other newer ones with Marty Friedman are all poppy Mustaine wanting to go mainstream albums.

I agree, I think that is the only classic Megadeth line-up, all my favorite songs is from the albums that line-up made then.

But I think that every Megadeth album has a special sound of it's own which is so cool about Megadeth.

Good album, Pretty underrated. One thing you said was Liar was about his ex, but I thought it was about Chris Poland stealing equipment for drug money or something right?

Underrated! The only songs I dont like on this one are "Anarchy in the UK" and "502". The rest is classic thrash/speed metal. As for Liar: it is about Chris Poland. "your girlfriend got herpes to go with you having AIDS" would make no sense if the song was about his girlfriend ;)

I agree that it is underrated, and a great album, but the lyrics to Liar are actually "Your girlfriends got herpes to go with your hep and AIDS.

I have been a HUGE Metallica and Megadeth fan for years now (17 years). I also play a lot of both bands suff on guitar.

I also agree this album often gets overlooked. Possibly because Peace Sells was such a favorite, as was Rust In Peace. The song Set The World A Fire, especially the intro, gets me up to boogie (LOL), Mary Jane and In My Darkest Hour are truly brilliant. I LOVE the mary jane riffs.

I also love how to me as a guitarist the sound is somewhat natural sounding. I love rust in peace, but to me it virges on having a synthetic sound. I guess this album just still contains some rawness that albums after this didnt.

I do agree with you in that while I dont mind Anarchy, it gets skipped most times I play the CD, simply due to the fact its crap compared to Megadeth's own material.

I rate it up there, nearly as good a peace sells. and certainly an album I still listen to almost daily.

This was the first Megadeth album i bought ever. I got it last summer and i love it since the summer i've probley listened to it about 100 times. The worst song is 502 i'm not a fan of that song either i'd probley give it a 3 becuase the guitar is all right. Anarchy isn't that bad it's better then Sex Pistols version that song is just BRUTAL and better then Motley Crue's also BRUTAL but that would be to me a 3.5 but nice review dude.
