Review Summary: …I won’t forget these forever nights...

It seems to be getting harder and harder to find true sincerity in music any more. What with emphasis nowadays being more on making money than making the best music, and even in the less popular genres it seems things are getting more 'technical' and less 'emotional', so maybe that's why I Have Dreams only album, simply entitled 'Demo', comes across as so refreshing and brutally sincere. The very existence of this band is based upon the death of a friend and band mate of their previous band, and the time that the band had together with him, which is both sorrowful and joyous at the same time.

I Have Dreams play a very melodic but still raw version of screamo that really suits the emotion and sincerity of the situation this album was recorded under. Being only fifteen minutes long, I Have Dreams don't drown the listener in sorrow or completely take it over the top. The lyrics are as much warming as they are mournful, and the album stands as a tribute rather than being disconsolate, and although the band do have their moments where they sound utterly in despair (The crushing “I don’t imagine you and I walking in the sun or holding hands anymore...” part after the opening of the fourth track) a lot of the album seems devoted to the good memories that the band had together, rather than mourning. Every time that the music seems to be getting too heavy there is always a clean break not far away that seems to put everything back in perspective.

Sure, the music isn't perfect. The clean vocals are sometimes a bit too whiny and the constant chugging riffs might get a bit over the top, but when the band are good, they're amazing, and at fifteen minutes there is no way you can get tired of I Have Dreams quickly. When it comes to sincerity in your music, you don't get anything much more honest and moving than this particular album.

when I go back to reviewing albums that are longer than fifteen minutes the reviews will start to get longer, I promise!

To be honest, the lyrics just seem really out of place. If you were actually using them to make a particular point, great, but they lessen the review otherwise.

You're really getting a lot of these out recently. I'll check these guys out. Short sound-offs work fine for music like this.

EDIT1: Review is good, but does bank on some cheesy ideas like "sincerity" that really isn't completely measurable.

EDIT2: Band is alright, but tin can guitar production kills me.

our friend died and the only way we can express our sadness is by creating crappy breakdowns.
