Limp Bizkit's 3rd studio album is debated by fans of the band. Some consider this album the bands peak, while others call it their failure. This album was the last album with Wes Borland on guitars, until he recently returend for The Unquestionable Truth, and many feel his absence is what killed the band when they released Results May Vary. Track Review
Intro
Hot Dog-Starts out with Fred "introducing" album. The guitar intro is good, but the bass slides underneath are the best part. Fred raps well, however the lyrics are terrible however, eventually Fred steals lyrics from NIN, and also proudly expresses that he has dropped the F bomb 46 times. All in all its nothing special. 2/5
My Generation-One of my favorites on the album. Its starts with John playing a drum solo of sorts. The lyrics are much better when compared to Hot Dog. Fred raps about the heat brought concerning the way his generation acts. The guitar is really bland, however there are a few cool effects during the verses, the bridge is also has an interesting guitar part. The bass is pretty much non existent, as it plays a few hits here or there or is completely covered by the guitar. The best part of the song is DJ Lethal's solo like scratch feature. 3/5
Full Nelson-This song starts with a little intrumental feature unlike the previous tracks, but it isn't anything amazing. Fred raps his lyrics like usual. The songs chorus talks about Fred beating someone up. The lyrics are unipired, like the previous songs. The bridge comes in and offers better guitar work, and goes into another bridge like section, with a little more guitar work. The chorus has a neat little guitar riff in it. 2/5
My Way-One of the singles off hte album, it is also one of the better tracks. Fred actually sings in this song. The song has a neat bassline incorporating slides and what sounds like harmonics. The lyrics although more inspored than many other tracks on the album, are cliched ("My way or the highway"). The brige contains some decent guitar riffing, but the best guitars in the song are after the bridge when the instrumental begins, which is a decent instrumental. The song just goes into the chorus again and, back to the bridge, then into an outro. 4/5
Rollin' (Air Raid Vehicle)-Another single this version of the song is missing all the other rappers. This is the better version of this song, because the music is heavy and doesn't contain an extra 3 minutes on its length to fit all the rappers in. The guitar work during the verses are softer than the other songs to bring out Durst's rapping, which is a shame because both the bass and guitar incorporate slides into the song. The drumming, which I haven't mentioned is just standard rock fare, although it does fit the song well. 3/5
Livin' It Up-A song dedicated to Ben Stiller, this track is full of some nice rapping by Durst however he mentions himself in third person, and talks about the album's title a lot. The guitar work by Wes is very nice through the whole song. John has some better drum work in this song than in Rollin' and DJ Lethal offers some nice samples. The bass work by Sam is very well played and sounds nice, as he again plays the verses in the upper register of the instrument. Even with that said, the lyrics are unispired and again cliched ("Living life in the fast lane"). The bridge is the best part of the whole song, with great drum work by John even though it is simple. Once the bridge fuses back into the chorus/pre-chorus the song loses the feel it had in the bridge which would have been a much better song. 3/5
The One-A love song, this song has some interesting bass work by Rivers. The guitar work in the verses and chorus is simplistic but works well. The drumming again is average, and Fred offers one of his better vocal performances on this album. The lyrics are some of the best on the album. The bridge offers a change in the feel of the song, and it just doesn't feel right or comfortable, especially when listening to the drumming, thankfully it doesn't last long, and the song reverts to its original feel. One of the better songs on this album. After this song there is a secret song, which I do not have a title for. but it is really merely filler. The One gets a solid 4/5
Getcha Groove On-A collavoration with Xzibit, this song sounds like a rap song and that what it is. There is no interesting instrumental work worth noting. This song reminds me of N2Gether Now off of "Significant Other" however that is better than this song could hope to be. With that being said it is an average rap song. 2.5/5
Take A Look Around-The theme to the movie MI:2 is one of my favorite songs off the album. The lyrics are some of the best on the album, and the guitar riff may not be original, but it is still cool. The bass is less entertaining than other tracks but it does get the job done. Drumming is better on this album because of some uses of the open hi-hat, and a few other little tricks. The chorus is heavy and has a decent riff in it. The coolest moment of the song is when the band plays the Mission Impossible main theme on thir own, with the heavy metal style. The bridge to the song has some more tom playing stuff from Otto which songs good. The song goes back to the chorus, then to the verse, minus vocals and just fades out. 4/5
It'll Be Ok-This track sounds similar to The One and My Way. Fred's vocals sound exactly like they did in The One. The guitar work is much better here than in The One, but again the bass sounds very similar. The song then hits a heavy section, but Fred's singing over the heavy guitars sounds bad. Except for the guitar in the verse which is entertaining and well played by Borland, this song is worth skipping. 1/5
Boiler-Another single off the album with a rather strange video. It opens with some simple effects and then melts into the hook which is very well played. The drumming is some of the best on the album. The verses feature Sam Rivers playing bass again in the higher register and it sounds good. The simplistic guitars during the verse are nothing special, but the chorus is decent with the main riff behind it. The verses are the same in both verses except in verse one Fred softly sings and in verse two he screams and yells. The bridge is entertaining, with some more tom work by Otto. However the repetitive lyrics by Durst hurt this song, giving the decent instrumentals a poorly written song that can get on your nerves because the boring lyrics last so long. The song has a little filler on the end of it as well but it is better to skip tracks instead of listening. 2.5/5
Hold On-Another ballad, this features a nice intro guitar, and some good drum work by Otto. Durst also gives a good vocal performance and actually sounds like he is singing. The song never gets heavy and is the most mellow song on the album. This song is good, and is ok to listen to although it drags on a bit. 3/5
Rollin' (Urban Assault Vehicle)-Ok this song is just terrible in comparison to the first version of the song. With no real work by the band the music is just standard rap beats. DMX yelling throughout the song gets annoying. The song goes on too long, even though there are 3 other rappers to appear on the track. Method Man, Redman, and DMX make Fred Durst look bad since they have much stronger rap skills. The barking gets annoying as well. The song doesn't represent the album's tone at all, then again the album doesn't know what it is anyway. A good single maybe for an EP or radio play, but on this album it just takes up space. 1/5
Outro
This album never gets a chance to even approach the satus of good or even great. This can be attributed to the album not defining a style, one track sounds like Nu-Metal in the style of Linkin Park (Note: Limp Bizkit was at work before Linkin Park). Another song sounds like an Alt-Rock song, then the Rap songs then back to Nu-Metal. If the album could decide on one solid genre the band could concentrate on writing songs that sound like they fit together like a cohesive whole, however, they mix so many different styles and genres that the album sounds like it is having an identity crisis.
