For those of you who like your music heavy, fast, brutal and very very angry, your prayers have been answered heres Slayer.
For those of you who dont know them, Slayer are one of metal's premier bands, with classic albums such as Reign In Blood and South of heaven. Seasons in the Abyss is another great Slayer album, which may be over shadowed by Reign In Blood. However Seasons in the abyss is surely one of the most complete and well mae metal albums ever in my opinion.
Seasons in the abyss opens with a full assault on your ears with "War Ensemble" a loud fast angry look at war as a sport. The guitar riffs are fast and furious, and the several solos (usually around 2 per song) show off the great guitar work of Kerry King and Jeff Haneman. The songs can be instantly recognized as Slayer tunes by their trademark style of fast minor riffs. The vocals are also recognizably loud and screamed with care by Tom Araya.
Although Slayer is mostly thought of as a speed metal band, Seasons contains some slower, more haunting tracks in addition to the fast tempoed staples. Some notables include Skeletons of society and Seasons in the abyss itself. Both of which are currently my favourite songs.
The lyrics on the album deal mostly with religious and political issues although there are some exceptions. Listen to Dead Skin Mask for one which isnt. It is a very disturbing song, but has a haunting riff and sound to it. Dont listen to this sucker at night.
Some of the best tracks include War Ensemble, Spirit in Black, Expendable Youth, Skeletons of Society and Seasons in the Abyss. The album is as a whole quite strong, however it must be noted that after a while some of the traks start to sound the same. Therefore I woudlnt listen to it non-stop for a while, since you will probably get sick of it.
