Chevelle is:
Pete: vox/lead guitar
Joe: bass
Sam: drums
Review:
Track 1...Family System: This song starts of with a neat little guitar chorus based intro, and Pete does some harmonizing with the lead melodie, then the guitar comes in full. The words, like most of their lyrics, make hardly any sense, but they're neat and catchy. Theirs a neat breakdown, typical for Chevelle, but still good, and the chorus has great harmonizing parts with high melodie. 9/10
Track 2...Comfortable Liar: Begins with a slow guitar scratch, he does a few of these throughout the whole album, and then comes in full. The words, once again, make about as much sense as....well nothing...but, as usual, they're catchy and well-thought out. The bridge into the chorus is catchy, and so is the chorus. After a few verses and choruses, he gets to a screaming part....(I personally like it)....and does some "new", original screams 8/10
Track 3...Send the Pain Below: This song starts out hard, then goes to a long, held-out notes until the bridge, then it's a clean guitar riff that is very catchy. Lyrics are still random, but still cool, and his voice is very well pitched in this song. The chorus is well harmonized, and catchy. This, I believe, is their best song on this album...therefore, it gets a..............................................10/10
Track 4...Closure: This song starts off with a clean guitar melodie, but the vocals follow a very similar pattern....the verse is kinda boring, and so is the bridge. The chorus, however, is extremely catchy, neat harmonies, and very melodic overall. The second verse is a little different from the first (obviously the lyrics are different), but the vocals follow a slightly different pattern. Then to finish the song, they go from a neat "breakdown" (not really a breakdown), into a harder version of the chorus. After this, it goes into a hard guitar driven outro. 9/10
Track 5...The Red: Starts with a slightly distorted guitar intro, then to a more clean verse. This time the verses lyrics make sense, but not much can be said about the choruses meaning. The chorus is very catchy and harmonized. It is a model that most Nu-Metal should follow, that is the more clean sounding guitar, and awesome vocals. After the second verse and chorus, there is a half-breakdown, and it goes back into the chorus. This song is a very good and well produced work. Ends with a guitar/vocal outro. 10/10
Track 6...Wonder What's Next: This song starts of guitar only, then goes to instrumental. After a few measures, the vocals join in. The words begin to make sense, then he adds a, "I wonder what's next"...and it makes no sense. second verse comes right after the first, then to some whispering about politics or something (If thats not what its about, I haven't listened to it very closely, then don't burn me). The chorus is boring and thats about the whole song. 6/10
Track 7...Don't Fake This: This song starts off with a vocal harmony with clean guitar rhythm. The verse makes no sense lyrically, and the bridge is very awesome. Chorus is very catchy, and fun to sing along with. Second verse still doesn't make sense, and then bridge is still cool, then the chorus adds the vocal part from the intro. IT adds a neat twist, but I think it might make the song sound to involved, and it makes it seem like there's more then three people. 8/10
Track 8...Forfeit: Neat rhythm for intro/verse, and the lyrics make a little sense. The bridge is fun to sing with. The guitar is very well done in this song. The chorus is basically just him whispering "Forfeit" a few times. I think musically its very good, but lyrically there could be more to it personally. 7/10
Track 9...Grab Thy Hand: This song starts out rocking from the beginning, and the verse is interesting. (can you tell I'm starting to get tired of typing, I'm less descriptive). The chorus is one long scream basically, but the bridge after the second chorus is nice. The whole song is very much drums-driven, in that Sam plays very hard during the whole thing.
7/10
Track 10...An Evening with El Diablo: Bass begins this song, and is the main driving point through the whole thing. The verse is not very catchy and hard to sing along with. It makes no sense lyrically, but neat guitar rhythm. The chorus is awesome I think, but it's hard to discern when the chorus ends and the third verse begins. 8/10
Track 11...One Lonely Visitor: All acoustic, with two vocal parts, one sounds like a girl, but I'm not sure. The verse to it is very interesting, and the guitar is rhythmic throughout the whole song. The bridge is the same guitar part for the chorus, and the same vocal pattern too, but different words. I'm not sure if it truelyis a bridge, or if it's just the chorus. I personally do not like this song as much as some of the others. 7/10
Overall...This album is inspiration to make good music combined with well harmonized vocal and guitar tracks. Overall I give this album a
9/10
