Release Date: 2005 | Tracklist

I got this album ages ago (2 days before it was released) and still listen to it over and over without getting bored.

1. An Honest Mistake - The opening track on the album and the band's second UK single. This song is probably one of the best and will most definitely go on to be heard for years to come. There isn't anything in this song that would classify as below average. Evrything's amazaing. 9/10

2. No Brakes - This song opens with the catchiest and most impressive basslines I've heard in a long time. The lyrics are pretty cool and overall it's a very catchy song. Good luck keeping it out of your head. 8/10

3. Fearless - The band's most recent single. Not exactly the best on the album and, in my eyes, not the best idea to release it. However it is one to play at a party and chances are people will get up and dance to it. 6/10

4. Tyrant - Definitely the best song on the album. This song deserves as much recognition as possible. The bass is mind blowing, the drumming is absolutely fantastic and the lyrics are extremely clever and catchy. 11/10

5. Give In - My friend described the openin of this song as too much like an Ian Van Dahl song. He couldn't be more wrong. For me, this is a defining song for the band and definitely shouldv'e been released instead of fearless. 8/10

6. Swollen Summer - The kind of song you want to listen whilst driving down an open road at 100mph. Fast paced and exciting with the most impressive guitaring on the album. Definitely one of their best. 9/10

7. Public Service Announcement - The best bassline I have heard in a long time. The chorus is one of the best I have heard from them and has the best lyrics ever ("Stop, Drop and Roll... You're on Fire). Doesn;t sound like much on it's own but with the backing music it's amazing. 9/10

8. Out Of Line - There are three words to desribe this song. OH MY GOD!! It's absolutely amazing! Second only to 'Tyrant' as the best song on the album. An extremely catchy chorus and definitely the best for showing off John' talents as a keyboardist. 10/10

9. Unconditional - The band's first single. The song opens with an amazing keyboard riff, followed by a simple, yet astounding, bassline. This is the song that really got me into The Bravery. A damn good song. 9/10

10. The Ring Song - Not the best song I've heard in a while. The only good thing about this song is the keyboard lines really. Nothing else that fantastic. 4/10

11. Rites Of Spring - The opening riff on this song is so good you could eat it. It's also a great opening for an even greater song. 8/10

12. Hot Pursuit (Bonus Track) - I can't think of a better way to end the album. A lot of albums I have end with songs that are reasonably dull and in some cases do not leave you wating to listen to the album agaim. However this song makes you want to buy the album again, for no reason whatsoever. 10/10

Hey Sunshiney Day - This song is the B-Side to An Honest Mistake, so it shoudln't really count in the review, but it's too good to be left out. Apparently it's a cover but I'm not sure who by. They still manage to pull it off and I'd like to hear the original, just to see if it can better this already amazing song. 9/10

Overall, I can't think of a better way to spend £10. This album is definitely the best album I own, and I own a lot of amazing albums. Can't wait to see them!!

I really don't get what's so good about them. There's a lot of better revival bands out there.

I don't like this album much - and it's by no means 5/5 material, that's overrating if ever I saw it.

Nonetheless, some very good, catchy tunes on there.

I'd give it 2.5/5 or maybe 3/5. They don't strike me as doing anything that hasn't been done many times before, and, in many cases, far better. Although their fight with The Killers makes me laugh.

hahahaha oh my god. 5 stars? I admit this album is a guilty pleasure, and with an extremely biased rating would only give it 2.5-3. Once the novelty wears off, this album would struggle for a 2.

Wouldn't mind having a much more substantiated review, certainly one that would at least attempt to justify a perfect rating, with as little bias as possible. Read around the site for ideas on how to write a more informative review.

As for the album itself... like I said this is a guilty pleasure, the band lacks humility which irritates me, but I admit I enjoy their borrowed and overdone sound. Favourite songs are the two singles, and "Tyrant" and "Out of Line" are fun too. I suspect my interest in this band will wear off quickly (probably not as quick as their inevitable fade from the spotlight, granted), but I'll enjoy them while they last.

note: I just tried to submit this as an edit but then it told me the comment was too long.

"Public Service Announcement" has the most asinine, juvenile lyrics I have ever heard. And no, I won't turn around and say that this makes the song charming. Steeped in vacuousness, and though I'll be the first to admit a few of the other songs are borderline, that one is inane beyond any redemption.

The first song on this album is the only great one.

2.5/5

The word describing this would be 'fanboyism' I persume. The view in the review seems to be a bit too biased. More objective next time wouldn't hurt.

I would rate the album around 2.5 or 3/5

I personally have never really seen the appeal in the bravery but oh well.

Welli think that 5/5 is overrating it somehow but i wouldnt say its something that should be dismissed as a guilty pleasure.

My personal rating 3.5-4/5.

My opinion won't be popular, but I think Interpol are a far better band than Joy Division.
