This was Jerry Cantrell's first solo effort since Alice In Chains. I read somewhere that it was good and being an Alice in chains fan I went out and bought it. I should say now that I was kind of disappointed by it because it was kind of lacking in my eyes compared to alice in chains. It's a very mellow album.

Dickeye
This is actually a really cool song and made the album seem very promising to me. It reminds me very much of AIC. It's got a cool riff and the lyrics are nice too. It's one of the better ones on the album. 4.5/5

Cut You In
This is a really cool song as well and the guitar is very good. It's really catchy and you find yourself singing along. The music and lyrics are really cool. Builds up in the chorus. Sorta in the same vein as "Heaven beside you". 5/5

My Song
This is a nice song and sort of mellow without being boring. I like the build up and vocals at the pre chorus part. 4/5

Settling Down
This song really showed me what was to come from the rest of the album. With the slow sort of piano part I knew it was going to be kinda mellow. The lyrics are sort of slow and dragged out. The chorus is the best part of this song and offers a relief from the sort of boring verses. 2.5/5

Breaks my Back
I have a sort of love hate relationship with this song. I really feel it would be a good song but the vocals just go through my head! He sounds sort of like he's underwater and it's sort of boring but I like the tune and it sounds sad. I think it would have been a lot better if he had just sang it without adding effects. I love the chorus though where he sings normally. The guitar is quite good on this. 3/5

Jesus hands
This guitar is very like AIC in my mind. It's grinding and heavier than most of the album. I think the music is great on it but the vocals are kind of drawly and repetitive. 3/5

Devil by his side
Sort if like the last couple of songs. Nothing really remarkable or outstanding about this track, the music is good enough though. 2.5/5

Keep the Light on
Grinding and distorted. A cool track and more upbeat and different than the last couple of ones. Goes sort of mellow half way through with the chorus but the cool grind comes back and a cool solo. 3.5/5

Satisfy
This is a nice acoustic song and quite is quite pretty. Reminds me actually quite of Sheryl Crow. 3.5/5

Hurt a long time
Another acoustic sort of song. Very mellow it's sort of like a summer's day. Hints of country here. 2.5/5

Between
A very countryish song. Sounds like a sort of story. The verses are ok but I really like the chorus, I just love the tune and lyrics and it kinda gets the song going. It's one of my more favourite tracks on the album. 4.5/5

Cold Piece
Takes a while to be joined by vocals and cool shaft sort of guitar before they enter and after the chorus. It's kinda got hints of soul. It's different than any other songs here in that respect. 3.5/5

I have Degradation Trip but I haven't heard one track off of this. I'll check it out sometime, good review.

I plan to purchase this A.S.A.P because Cut You In and My Song are unbelievably awesome.

And I think Cut You In sounds nothing like Heaven Beside You.

I love this album. I don't think it sounded much like AiC stuff, but it was still really good.

Jerry combines the crunching melodic guitars of AIC with a nice laid back feeling. Its a great CD.

Very nice combination of heavy rockers and introspective material. Cantrell never disappoints.
