Hailing from Melbourne and with dreams of making it big, the foursome formed just as the new millennium was beginning. They quickly self-released the Dirty Sweet EP in 2002. The vinyl-only album, which was limited to 1,000 pressings, was an instant hit down under. Once they pressed 1,000 more, Jet was being touted in the U.K.
Although anyone who's close to this band will likely tell you they do not sound anything like The Hives, The Vines or The White Stripes, the resemblances are obvious. But that's certainly not a bad thing. 'Get Born' is a solid all-around rock album. There are countless hard rock gems, and then there are a few choice softies.
The Band:
Cameron Muncey (guitar/vocals)
Chris Cester (drums)
Nic Cester (guitar)
Mark Wilson (bass)
The Review:
1.Last Chance: Ok song. Didn't do much for me but nothing wrong with it. Not slow or fast, just sortof in the middle. 3/5
2.Are You Gunna Be My Girl: Although it may of got serious over-kill with that iPod commercial, the songs truly great. Its got good energy to it and that makes this song one of my favorates on this album. 5/5
3.Rollover D.J: I like this song. Its got a cathcy tune. It's one of those songs where after hearing you find yourself singing the whole day. 4/5
4.Look What You've Done: This song is AMAZING. It may not be fast, but thats not a bad thing. You can tell it was Beatle inspired or even early Rolling Stones. 4.5/5
5.Get What You Need: Decent. Thats about all i can say about this song. Chorus gets kinda annoying after a while but still not a bad song. 3.5/5
6.Move On: Another one of the slower songs. I liked it. The accoustic works well with the song. Not as good as 'Look What You've done but i can't really compare the songs. Its ok tho. 3.5/5
7.Radio Song: Good Song! Chorus is great, the whole song is really good. 4/5
8.Get Me Outta Here: Fast song again but its brilliant. 4/5
9.Cold Hard B****: This is the ULTIMATE highlight of the album. This song proves where they get their roots from. The Stones, Beatles, The Who and all the great rock 'n roll/Garage Rock bands. From their instrument parts, until they cut to Nick Cesters lead vocals when he goes acapella "Gotta leave town got another appointment. Spent all my rent girl you know I enjoyed it." Then leads into their awesome music skills. This is the BEST song on the album. 5/5
10.Come Around Again: A slowish song, another one but even their slow songs are great. 3.5/5
11.Take It Or Leave It: Its ok. Nothing bad about it and catchy rythem. Kind of an aquired taste. The more you listen to it the more you enjoy it. 3.5/5
12.Lazy Gun: One of my favorates on the album. Any Oasis fan would like it. 4/5
13.Timothy: Slower, but great. Could of been done by Pink Floyd. 4/5
Highlights:
Cold Hard B****
Look What You've Done
Lazy Gun
Timothy
Are You Gunna Be My Girl
Rollover D.J
Conclusion:
All in all, Get Born gets a 4.5/5. It has some great ballads, and some crazy head banging songs. Their whole retro feel may be why i like them so much or it could just be how similar they sound to my favorate bands (The Who, AC/DC, Beatles). If you don't own Get Born, get it quickly! Hopefully the next album is as good, or even better then Get Born.
