Release Date: 1988 | Tracklist

Guns N' Roses emerged from Los Angeles' Sunset Strip scene in the mid 1980s. Led by frontman W. Axl Rose, The Guns N' Roses where powered by the ripping guitar work of Izzy Stradlin and Slash which made the band's first studio album, "Appetite For Destruction", a must have. Gn'R Lies is GN'R's follow up to AFD and is a compilation of the Guns N' Roses original EP "Live Like A Suicide" as well as 4 new studio recorded tracks.

After the original EP began selling for large sums of money when the band made it big with "Appetite For Destruction" Lies was created in order to give all fans a taste of the original work, as well as the new studio tracks to hold the fans until the next studio release.

The Band is

Axl Rose(vocals/piano)
Slash (Lead Guitar)
Izzy Stradlin (Rythm Guitar)
Duff McKagan (Bass)
Steve Adler (Drums)

The CD has two sides, Side 1 is the orginal Live EP, while Side 2 is the studio tracks.

And the Tracklist is

Side 1

1.Reckless Life
2.Nice Boys
3.Move To The City
4.Mama Kin

Side 2

5.Patience
6.Used To Love Her
7.You're Crazy
8.One In A Million

SIDE 1

This side contains the live tracks. They are of a fairly good quality.

Reckless Life (3:20): A good guitar intro, but this song never really builds into anything special, sort of repetitive and nothing that's going to set the world on fire. But an easy song to listen too, also a good live vocal performance from Axl. 2.8/5

Nice Boys (3:03): Pretty average song. Contains the memorable line "Nice Boys dont play rock and roll". Also nothing special but easy to listen too, a bit repetitive and a mediocre guitar solo. The Vocals are good as they are in most of the live songs on this CD. 2.5/5

Move To The City (3:42): A good build up in the intro, and the bass sounds good. This song sounds like it contains trumpets. pretty repetive, but sounds good. Probobly the best song off this side. 3.5/5

Mama Kin (3:57): An Aerosmith cover, and a pretty good one too. The guitar work sounds great, and Axl's singing fits the song perfectly, once again slightly repetitive, but a good listen. 3/5

SIDE 2

This side of the CD is the studio tracks. They are all acoustic except for "One In A Million"

Patience (6:02): A lovely song with a great intro invoving acoustic guitar and whistling. A fantastic ballad, good guitar solo and sublime outro, probobly the best and most memorable song off this CD and arguably one of their best ever ballads. 4.5/5 :thumb:

Used To Love Her (3:13): A controversial song that brought forward claims that the band where chauvenistic pigs and bigots. Contains the line "I used to love her, but I had to kill her, and i can still her complain." In my opinion one of GN'R's most underrated songs. Though its repetitve it contains two ood guitar solos that break the song up perfectly. 4/5 :thumb:

You're Crazy (4:10): A slowed down version of the AFD song.Good vocal performance nice improvisation, nice buildup intro, pretty basic musical work, goes with the song though overall, good song. 3.5/5

One In A Million (6:08): Well, GN'R's most controversial song, containing lyrics like "Police and ******s, get out of my way" and "Immigrants and Faggots they make no sense to me" (Axl Says this will be removed from future pressing becasue he's tired of defending the lyrics. Its still on there btw  ) A good song though and probobly among the best off this CD. Afterall good guitaring and controversy, what more can you want?! 4/5 :thumb:

The Good: Its great to see GN'R's original work and the new tracks are fantastic. Also its great to see Axl in his vocal prime on the live tracks.

The Bad: Its really only for fans and their isnt a very good album for an introduction to the band.

Overall: The Live tracks are solid but nothing is outstanding, The studio tracks are much better than the live ones, and show us a humourous side of GN'R with "Used To Love Her". However its really a fans only affair. Fans will love this, but most people unfamiliar with GN'R may not find it as appealing, especially side 1, Side 2 should appeal to more people however with its lovely acoustic tracks.

Best Tracks

Used To Love Her
One In A Million
Patience

Final Rating 3.2/5 This was Mainly to fill the gap between AFD and the UYI releases, but still had some nice offerings.

i really like this album.
one in a million is defo one of g'n'r s best songs. lyrics aside(and they are brillant, some peeps take things too seriously) i love the acoustic in this, and that solo is just brillant.
