You know it's unfortunate when a once good band puts out a bad album. Such is the case for Linkin Park. The band stands accused of writing an uninspired, trendy generic record. Hybrid Theory was great, and even Meteora had good material on it. What the hell happened?
This record was pretty highly anticipated as the band sated that it would contain elements of punk, old school hip-hop, and progressive rock. Although there are some elements of those, they are poorly incorporated. Within the booklet included in the album are the song lyrics and comments as to how they were written. Based on those comments most of the songs remained almost unchanged from their early demo's and it shows. The level of songwriting seems as though it was rushed, as to say that the studio was rented out for a short period of time.
The vocals sound much improved. Chester sings smoother and easier. That's not to say that he still screams for all that he can possibly stand, which might ruin his voice one day. His lyrics haven't improved much. They sound inmature and bitchy for the most part.
Seemingly all of the techno and hip-hop elements are gone. Mr. Hahn is practically nonexistant throughout almost the entire album. Mike Shinoda plays much more guitar and his parts are somewhat insignificant. The only exceptions are In Between, Bleed it Out, and Hand held High. So they practically kicked them out of the band, or it feels like it.
There's also alot of clapping effects in some songs. It gets very annoying after a certain point. They can keep clapping for themselves all they want, becuase no one else is after this album. With the exception of No more Sorrow, Bleed it Out and What i've Done, the band wrote a boring album that won't appeal to many people. Sorry LP, better luck next time.
Linkin Park could really live up to their potential if they just simply took the few good elements from this, and the some of the sound from their nu-metal days, basically saying write a whole album like What i've Done, and they could make another good album. But until then we're stuck with this. How very unfortunate.

I realize some people like this album btw, and that's fine. I just didn't like it. So please don't leave hateful comments. Just being safe.
| | | I really don't mean to nitpick but could you at very least capitalize song titles and either put them in quotation marks or bold them or something. It just looks so much more pleasing to the eyes. Also a bit more detail wouldn't hurt in terms of why you didn't like a certain song, ie Valentine's Day because all I know is you end up skipping over it. Also make sure you proofread your reviews since some grammer is off and there are some typos as well. Really don't mean to be coming off hard, just trying to give ya some pointers.

That's cool, i'll edit it later.

That first sentence just discouraged me from reading the rest of the review.

There I changed the first sentence.

I hope it's a good review though. I always try to use perfect grammar, and when I type, I type fast, so I don't always notice what i'm typing.
| | | This review is terrible. If you're over 13, this should be a disgrace to you. I barely made it through. Please keep this crap to yourself. I'm not hating, just critiquing. Re-write this.
| | | At least have the decency to use capital letters on album/song titles and bold them so they are distinguishable.
"Kind've", "Kinda", "cool". You use words that are extremely informal and don't say anything at all. Sorry buddy, terrible review.
| | | Not reading prior comments is the new black kalkal?
| | | This review is not good. You used stereotypical "emo" a bit too much, there's a bit too much words like 'crap' and 'cool' in this review, and you're a bit too vague.
| | | I read the comments prior to mine. I wanted to reiterate... I don't care
| | | kk. So yeah this album definitely does get boring at parts. I listened to it for the first time last night and came to the conclusion I would like this a lot more if I was four years younger. This Message Edited On 07.07.07

Well this most certainly blows, I have done six reviews, and they're all pretty bad. I try to describe the music as best I can, but I just can't seem to put it into words.
| | | the review isn't put together well but it isn't horrible. a little too long, too. sometimes just taking a minute and figuring how you can shorten it and say the same thing can help. this would have been better in a traditional track by track format. its not hard to do just look at other reviews or ask for help in the sputnik forum if you want to improve a little. used to be a thread called "the writers block" in the forums for questions and help and stuff. see if you can't dig it up, perhaps.
and remember, we always appreciate an honest attempt at sputnikmusic.com. a little more attention to format would be appreciated, however. This Message Edited On 07.07.07

I changed the whole review. Except for few statements. But I think it's better. I basically tried to describe the album, then tell what tracks are good.
| | | It is a much better review now.

The only thing keeping this from a 1 is "The little things give you away"
I love that song, it's just that it's the only thing worth listening to

What I've Done... man, that song sucks so bad, this album has nothing it can stand on as a stand out, maybe Leave Out All the Rest, but that's it.
