Review Summary: I felt like throwing up after listening to this. I'd rather listen to the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.
The Insane Clown posse are a rap group made up of two members. Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope. They formed in Detroit and went on to release several violent and comedy filled albums. This same group is voted #1 on Blender Magazine's list of 50 Worst Artists in Music history. However, for a band so disliked by the media. They have one of the biggest fans bases in the country. I always see people at my school walking the hallways with ICP shirts on. So I wondered, why are so many people fans of the worst music artist in history? I decided to check them out myself to see what all the fuss was about.
This album,
Ringmaster, is the Insane Clown Posse's 2nd full length album. This is also their first effort to be certified as gold. also In their last album, entitled
Carnival of Carnage, they delt with writing songs about how the ghetto is dangerous and how supposedly evil rich people are. This, however opens up with a different message.
It seems my cards of tarot have dealt you a very odd hand
A hand of six jokers card, this is very rare
And suggest something neusant is approaching
You should be visited by a dark circus
A circus that holds pain and anguish
The album opens with
Wax Museum not a very exciting track, as it is just carnival noises backed with record scratches and beats. There aren't many lyrics to this song either. This track sets the mood for the rest of the album though, and let's you know that you're in for a dark and violent journey ahead. Pretty much this whole album is full of not very exciting tracks. They all seem like they could've been written by a mentally retarded teenager with a love for horror movies. The lyrics to almost all, if not all of these songs are stupid, immature, and overly violent.
While I do like to watch an ocassional gore-filled horror movie, the Insane Clown Posse just goes way over the top. So over the top its not funny, it just leaves people feeling disgusted. The lyrics on this album are also filled with extremely grossening sexual humor. Again, I like watching movies with sexual humor in them all the time, but it just gets disgusting after awhile. Here's a little sample:
Well, I don't understand the phenomenon
We ***ing these hoes that look like spallala
Rich boys think that is ***ty
But I like ***ing crack heads with one tit
And I do it at the drop of a dime
And I get the scabies almost every time
So let's talk about my nutsac
I don't front, Jack, I got bugs on my ballzac
In any other case, I would try to look pass the bad and disturbing lyrics. There's always musicianship to look forward to right? Wrong. Even if their aren't any real instruments involved in this album, which there aren't in most rap music, the beats and background "music" involved could still be the least bit interesting. But in ICP's case, all of their supposed "talent" is put into their childish lyrics. The beats on this album are nothing to call home about and are for the most part, uninteresting.
There aren't very many good qualities about
Ringmaster. You might get an ocassional laugh out of it, but other than that
Ringmaster is pretty close to a steaming pile of dog poop.
Overall
Ringmaster is a very horrible excuse for an album. It's childish and overly violent lyrics just make you want to push the stop button 30 seconds into each of the songs.
