Review Summary: This is fairytale abuse's forth album. It is also their first to be released in America.
Fairytale Abuse is a danish death metal band that I discovered last year. They say their influences are cradle of filth and pantera, but you don't really hear anything on the album that even sounds like them a little bit. They sound more like burn the priest and Age of Rage. Both the vocalists are great, one has a deep brutal voice the other one has a high pitched scream. The two go together so well. This is fairytale abuse's forth album and it is deffinetlly not a letdown. If your a first time listener you can expect to here overall superb musicianship. This is fairytale abuses first album to be sold in America,if you want it you can either go to your local music shop and ask if they can get it in. Otherwise you can go to hateworks.net and purchase a copy. This is fairytale abuse's last album with their drummer, and may be disbanding if they can't find a new danish drummer.
What was good about this album:
The cover art has a dark, creepy look to it and thats the same feel the album has. The two vocalists gel so well together, and thats what really makes this album complete. The deep brutal vocals are used as backing, and the high pitch screams are the lead vocals. The guitarwork on this album is excellent. It really shows off the skill of the guitarists, unlike previous albums have. The melody on this cd gives the whole album a creepy feel, which go well with the dark inspired lyrics. Everything on the album gels together perfect, the drums, the guitar, the vocals, the lyrics, and the melody. The drumming is also one of the highlights of the album. Its not so simple like their previous releases. The drummer really gets to shine on this album.
What was bad about the album:
Even though everything meshes together so well, the songs seem to also, which isn't a good thing considering most have the same sound to them. The use of the two vocalsists sounds great but gets annoying at times. Sometimes the deep growling gets to loud and you can't hear the lead vocalists, and it seems like the guy with the deep voice is just growling incoherent sentences. This album does have a couple of low points, but overall most of the songs are superb. Vocalwise Fairytale abuse really hasn't experimented much. If you've downloaded their earlier music thats almost exactly what you get here.
If I gave this album a rating it would be PG-13 for violent content, because there is alot of that in here, but as far as I can tell there is no language. Even if you've checked out the downloads of their previous work at their website you should still check this album out. The band has really evolved since their first release. The guitarwork and the drumming have improved beyond belief. The dark medevial sound of this album really brings the sound up a couple of notches. Overall this album gets an excellent rating from me,for its great vocals, guitar, melody, and drumming, but for if it didn't have a lack of variety it would have a classic rating from me.
