This might not be Slipknot's greatest album, but it's better than Iowa. How? Each track sounds different than the last and they wrote songs that were styled differently compared to previous works (one song especially, but I'll talk about that later). On this one, there's a bonus disc (what's not to like?).
I had the original version, but every song was skipping badly, so I had to get a new copy. That's when I found Vol. 3 reissue. It would be pretty boring doing a song-by-song on an album with 28 tracks, so I'll talk about the good songs and the few that are either repetitive, wierd or just plain crap (if any).
As always, the second song on a Slipknot album is the proper way to start it off. I'm not very fond of this song live, which will be on the second disc. I like the snare beat in the middle of this song.
Three Nil is good at first, but isn't as good after the first two minutes for some reason. Again, not the perfect live track. The chorus is obiusly the best part of the song.
Duality is awesome! It's styled like Wait and Bleed and My Plague, so you know it's good. It starts off soft, then heavy. The guitars in this song is unique. Seriously, how do they play that? And the drums are complex, too.
Both of the Vermilions are good songs. The first one starts off with wierd effects and you can still hear them going on from time to time when everyone else starts playing. The vocals in the verses are low. After a couple of minutes, it becomes a new song. The end is good. The guitars ring into the next song, which is Pulse of the Maggots, but I'll talk about that after Vermilion, pt. 2. The second one is another acoustic song. The first one was Circle, which wasn't very great. I prefer part 2. You know what's weird? Vermilion is the name of my home town!
Pulse of the Maggots starts off with some media in the beginning. I always fast-forward this part. But when the actual song starts playing, it gets from pretty bad, to awesome! This is one of the best songs on this one.
The next song is not an incredibly heavy song, but it's still a metal song. The song is Before I Forget. Another good song. I don't have much to say about this song, other than it's good.
Now I'm going to skip to Don't Get Close, which is on the white disc. It starts with drums fading in and then some quiet effects, and then, some actual guitars. The vocals aren't as heavy in this one.
Scream is another bonus track. Seeing that they recorded the first two during recording sessions, tis song probably became Three Nil. Think about it. The difference is this one's better.
The Terry Date mix of Vermillion isn't far different from the original, so we'll skip it.
And now, the live tracks. The best one out of all of them is Disasterpiece, which was taken from the Disasterpieces DVD. If you already saw the DVD, you're not missing out on anything.
The weakest song is Circle. Pretty much an experiment acoustic song with strange samples in it.
